How the CORE initiative is helping to promote the NT’s minerals and energy sectors to international investors
Fiona Park
What do we do? The Northern Territory Geological Survey assists Australian companies with investment-ready minerals and energy projects located in the Northern Territory to find international investors
A free service for investment-ready exploration and developing projects
How do explorers get involved? At forums like AGES and through the NT Geological
Survey’s other interactions with companies throughout the year
We take a look at the information available about the
project and the company
And new projects are very welcome
How do we go about it? We develop an information sheet for each project
We use your information, and we write it into a format designed to attract initial investor interest
How do we find the investors?
• Our desktop research • Explorer’s own research • Austrade • Industry conferences • Delegations (inbound and
outbound)
We focus most of our efforts on international companies with an investment track record
We seek to find the subset of investors who will match the opportunities we have
The investment criteria: • Particular commodities • Stages of development • Levels of commitment
What information do we seek?
We look for cost effective ways that explorers can interact directly with explorers
How do we engage with investors?
Easy Access Information
Tours & visits: creating relationships.
Meetings & cultural exchanges
Networking Seminars/ Conferences
List of services • Send project information in response to investor enquiries • Maintain regular contact with our database of several
hundred investors • Organise inbound delegation programs to the NT and
facilitate meetings with other agencies and organisations • Organise outbound delegations for explorers to Japan,
South Korea and China to meet with investors • Organise investment promotional events in Australian
capital cities where foreign investors have offices
We can also provide guidance for explorers’ own efforts
Indicative Results • Since the International Investment Attraction Program
commenced in 2006, 43 Chinese, Korean and Japanese investment deals in Territory projects worth $777 million have been announced; 11 of those deals, worth more than $29 million have been announced since August 2012
• Of the 43 announced deals, 25 were successful (the promised investment was confirmed as received), with a total value of $270 million. The department was directly involved in attracting 13 of those 25 deals, with a total value of $237 million.
The results are likely to be even higher than this
Draft plans for 2016 • Promotional events for Chinese, Japanese, Korean,
Indian businesspeople in Sydney – May 2016
• Investment delegation to Japan and Korea – May or June 2016
• Investment delegation to China – September 2016
