Woven mesh supports an ink blocking stencil, a roller with ink is pressed over the mesh, forcing ink through open areas, like stenciling

•Printmaking Techniques:
Printmaking began around 100AD in China, shortly after paper was invented. Writings were rubbed onto the print so that scholars could
study their scriptures. This helped Buddhism spread from India to China.
The Diamond Sutra was the earliest woodcut to combine the text with an image. Its considered the earliest known book as well from
868 ad.
The first woodcuts in the Western world were not made until the 15th Century in Germany, France, and Italy. The earliest images were
for playing cards. Clergy also used them for devotional purposes.
