How Painting came to be?
• The oldest known paintings are at the Grotte Chauvet in Southern France, claimed by some historians to be about 31,000 years old. They are engraved and painted using red ochre and black pigment and show horses, rhinoceros, lions, buffalo, mammoth or humans often hunting.
• Discovered December 1994 by Jean Marie Chauvet et.al
Lascaux Painting • Discovered Sept. 12, 1940• Also from France, but in Southwestern
part. (Dordogne region)• Apprx. 20,000 Years old• Contains nearly 2000 figures• Group in three main categories
