Guns, Germs, and Steel

According to Jared Diamond, Eurasia became hegemonic because of its favorable geographic location.

Eurasia has good weapons, immunity to diseases in which other peoples were not immune to, and good military organization.

The Columbian Exchange

Because of Columbus’ voyages, the Old and New world came together.

This was an exchange of people, crops, diseases, and ideas.

There were intermarriages between the Europeans and the Mesoamericans.

Spices and Other Things

Trade has connected people from all parts of the world.

A variety of goods have been traded throughout history including; the potato, sugar, cacao beans, coffee, drugs, and

others.

Catastrophe!

David Keys believes that the eruption of the volcano called Krakatoa in the 6th century caused a drop in temperature because of the particles that blocked out the sun.

He believes this drop in temperature led to diseases.

Islam may have grown because people found refuge in this religion in the midst of the devastation they felt from diseases.
