Journalism, Period 8:
Hi there! I hope you are all doing well!
This week (Week Four) you’re going to be doing something a bit different, so here’s my
suggestion:
Get an early start on the assignment for the week, and if you have questions or need
assistance, I will send out info for a Zoom meeting later in the week.
Here’s what we’re going to do:
1) Read the provided info on Modular Layout and Standard Type Sizes.
2) Keeping in mind the info from the Modular Layout sheet, read the directions on the third
page. You are basically going to write a short article, take a photo, compose a headline
and caption, and put all those together in a layout of your choice. If you can, you should
use either PowerPoint or Google Slides to do this.
*If you do not have access to either of those programs, you can do the same thing by
hand, take a picture of it, and send it to me.
This might take you longer than you think, so allow yourself time to do it in “chunks:” do
the writing and photography on one day, and do the layout on the computer on another
day.
So again, get started, and if you have questions or need clarification, we can Zoom some
time around April 30th
(I’ll send out the info to you). Talk to you soon!
Directions: Choose one of the following design
templates. Using PowerPoint or Google Slides, mimic
the design you chose and create your own modular
layout with a headline that you write, a photo you have
taken, a caption you write, and an article you write. This
encompasses many skills you have learned: your photo
should follow photography rules, your caption should
follow caption guidelines, etc.
Topic: Your life in quarantine: How have you been
passing the time? How are you and your family doing
emotionally, physically, and/or otherwise? What will be
the first thing you do once this is all over?
