We’re a local education and training board (LETB) and are a sub-committee of Health Education England.
‘Get Connected’ provides a new space to showcase where we are working together with you, our partners and providers across the region, as well as connecting with you to identify more opportunities for collaborating.

Shape of Caring review Engagement EventWe all know that healthcare is going to look very different over the next 15 years due to a range of reasons, such as ageing population; changing patterns of health and disease; delivery of more care in community settings; advances in care and treatment; and advances in technology, to name a few. As healthcare changes and as care patterns change, we must have a workforce of nurses and care assistants appropriately trained to meet those needs.
The Shape of Caring Review, led by Lord Willis of Knaresborough, will ensure that throughout their careers, nurses and care assistants receive consistent high quality education and training which supports patient care.
On 29th September a patient and public engagement session was held at BVSC, The Centre of Voluntary Action, to give patients and public the opportunity to make their voice heard on a number of important issues including the training of nurses and care assistants, continuing professional development, good practice, what is working, what isn’t and what needs to change.Engagement is key to delivering recommendations which will future proof our workforce and support them in delivering high quality patient care. Feedback received from this meeting will be taken on board in the development of the final report in February 2015.
Inspired by the idea of returning to nursing? Still committed to care and compassion?
If you’ve ever thought about returning to practice, now is the time to do it.If you have been a registered nurse previously and wish to return to the profession, then you may need to undertake a return to practice programme. The programme is essentially a period of updating your skills and knowledge, so that you can return to work in nursing and become re-registered.To ensure that returning to nursing is as simple as possible for you, return to practice programmes have been refreshed across the country so that you can enjoy a supportive, flexible and varied learning experience.
The development of the return to pratice programmes started at the beginning of 2014 and has seen contributions from a vast amount of people, which has led to the programmes being refreshed by nurses for nurses.
Health Education West Midlands is committed to funding high quality Return to Practice education programmes which reflect the needs of the healthcare employees, healthcare providers and patients. The Return to Practice (Nursing) programmes will be delivered by a number of Universities within the region.
On our website you can find links to the universities involved, how to apply, how we will support you and find out about the Return to Practice Open Days. Find out more
