PUBLISHERS NOTE SPRING 2020
hen it comes to weddings, Pensacola
is a city that has love on lockdown.
Beautiful beaches, historic downtown
buildings, scenic rural settings illed with
romance…You name it, we have it, which
means that, when you’re planning the day
of your dreams, we can make those dreams
come true.
Naturally, it takes more than just the
perfect setting to achieve your ideal
wedding—it takes a team of people to
bring it all together, from the planners to
the caterers and the cake decorators. Here
in this city of Five Flags, we have talented
individuals and companies who work their
magic in the kitchen, creating stunning
confections and constructing masterful
plates of food that forever hold a place in
our memories and in our hearts and making
the edible portion of your Happily Ever
After something to talk about. In this issue,
we’re giving you an up-close-and-personal
look at some of those talents and what they
offer so that your special day has the best
food and cake possible. Your reception
should be one to be remembered—for the
right reasons—so get ready to take a bite
and get a taste of what Pensacola has to
offer.
As always, we want to raise a toast to our
long-time partners at The Knot, thanking
them for the continuous support they show
us in sponsoring our bridal shows and
the complimentary magazines they have
faithfully provided to all of the brides who
attend our events. And as you read this
issue, we want to offer all of our beautiful
brides and their handsome husbands-to-be
our most sincere wishes for a forever illed
with a lifetime of love and happiness that
grows even more with each passing day.
Cheers!

Even with all the joy and excitement,
weddings are an undeniably stressful
time. So many details to plan, so many
preparations to make, so many checklists
and expectations to satisfy. All of that
can take its toll, but inding even a few
moments to relax and hit “refresh” really
is an important part of getting ready for
the big day, and with their wide range of
luxurious medical spa services, Turquoise
Rejuvenation Center in Pensacola offers the
perfect way to prepare for that all-important
walk down the aisle toward Happily Ever
After.
“Weddings are hectic and take an
incredible amount of planning to pull off,
and we want to help promote total body
and mind wellness to help relax and de-
stress before the big event,” says Carl
Lindholm, who co-owns and operates the
newly opened medical spa with his wife,
medical aesthetician Dr. Erin Lindholm.
Offering services including aroma therapy
massage, CBD oil infused massages, deep
tissue massages, hot stone massages, pre
and postnatal massages, and couples’
massages in addition to aesthetics
facial services with their exclusive DMK
line as well as Glo cosmetics, Turquois
Rejuvenation Center also offers makeup
sessions and manicures and pedicures in
zero gravity chairs. Among Dr. Lindholm’s
specialties are laser hair removal, photo
rejuvenation, (RF) radio frequency micro
needling, acne treatments, and facial
injections and illers including Botox and
Xeomin. For bridal parties preparing for the
main event, they have just what the doctor
ordered.
“We’re the only facility in Pensacola with
the physical space to accommodate
wedding parties as large as 15 people at
once, which allows our clients to have a
unique, customized spa experience as they
escape the stress before their wedding and
create lifelong memories of this special
event,” says Carl. “Our mission is to provide
the most relaxing experience to our clients
and shows them that we listen and care
about their wants and needs, so that they
can feel comfortable enough to let all their
stress melt away while they are with us.”
Perfect for the bridal parties looking to
bliss out, the bridal spa package includes
catered food and drinks as well as service
from concierges to attend to whatever
needs arise. “We offer a level of service that
sets us apart, and our clients appreciate
that,” Carl contends. For any bride, groom,
or wedding party, the services at Turquoise
Rejuvenation Center are one proposal
worthy of saying, “I do.”

Naturally, the success of a business brings with it growth and often the need for a change in location, a moving on to bigger and better
things as one space becomes too small to accommodate their needs. It’s a great thing to see, and we’re excited to announce to recent
moves and expansions of some of the businesses that have made their mark in the wedding scene over the past few years. Here are some
updates that you’re sure to love!
What was the reason for the move/expansion?We knew we needed to expand when we were running out of styling chairs to service the demand for the salon. In addition to that, the café needed more seating, and we get many requests for a private seating area. When the opportunity presented itself to purchase another building, we put our heads together in how to use the space and came up with multiple solutions!
Where is your new location? The new location is one block south on 9th Avenue. The new address is 45 South 9th Avenue, two doors down from the Aragon Wine Market. The Parlor Room and Aragon Café is at 47 North 9th Avenue. The salon is 45 South 9th Avenue and the Airbnb is at 49 South 9th Avenue. The Barbershop, Aragon Café, and Parlor Room Event space is at 47 North 9th Avenue. The Parlor Room is a small private space that used to be the salon. It seats 20 people for showers and bridal luncheons, etc. The Airbnb is 2000 square feet and sleeps eight, with two master bedrooms as well as living space with an open plan dining and kitchen in addition to a bonus room and front and back balcony.
What will this change mean for your business? The exciting change this brings is an opportunity to serve our guest and employees better. The over 4000 square foot building has two levels with completely separate entrances. The bottom loor will be our new salon space, which more than doubles the styling and shampoo chairs and allows us to add nail services that include two pedicure chairs and offer more products. We will also have a nice hair and makeup sales area to supply our local neighbors with their beauty needs. We have converted the top loor into an Airbnb, which is a 2000 square foot executive apartment that sleeps eight and is perfect for hosting guests or bridal parties for the downtown area! The space where the salon once was gives us a private event space for under 25, as well as extra seating for the Aragon Café. We are very excited about how much all of this will add to our area. There is a real need for space for bridal luncheons, showers, business meetings, and family functions. The room is also beautifully decorated and fully equipped with a Smart TV for slide shows and PowerPoint presentations, and we have amazing catering service abilities.

Something Old, Someplace New
Fiore is on the move! We are continually growing our business and looking for ways to better ourselves on every level. We love being in the downtown area; so as we grew out of one space, we were in need of another. Our new location is an amazing building built in 1943, with 18-foot ceilings, all white and full of light. It also encompasses our warehouse, which has always been offsite. Now we can literally walk our clients through a space that offers the same amazing loral design in an open, creative space and allows them to experience the behind the scenes magic of our warehouse. We are located at 405 South K. Street. We now have an entire parking lot, and you simply cannot miss the loral mural on the building—it’s one of a kind! 2020 is going to bring us so many more opportunities showcase this space with everyone, hosting special events and workshops beyond what we had ever imagined. Please come visit, we are so grateful and excited to share this space and are thankful for everyone who helped us get here.

Reception Perfection
When it comes to weddings, there are so many details to think of. The dress, the ceremony space, the reception venue, the lowers,
the cake, and—of course—the food. The food at wedding receptions has always been under great scrutiny, but no more so than now,
in this age of social media when everyone breaks out the camera phone before they break out the forks. They snap photos of their
plates with wild abandon, recording their plates for posterity and posting their pics with hashtags that will live on in Internet history until
the end of time, speak now or forever hold your peace. Or plate. Which means that there’s even more pressure to have great food at
your reception—food that tastes exceptional, looks fantastic, and isn’t what everyone else has. Fortunately, with everyone getting all
hashtaggy about more creative fare, it opens the door to whatever your heart desires, from food truck bites to ive-star cuisine.

Much like most wedding traditions, the custom of the wedding
cake is one that has been around since time immemorial, dating
back to ancient Greece. But as you might have guessed, those
cakes of ancient times weren’t quite what we have today, with
elegant frosting and intricate designs encasing tasty sponge with
illings that make your eyes roll back in your head with pleasure.
Nope.
Think lavorless cakes of wheat or barley that were broken over the
bride’s head. Sounds fun, doesn’t it? If that doesn’t appeal, fast-
forward a few centuries to 16th and 17th century England, when they
typically served “bride’s pie,” a savory delight illed with oysters,
lamb testicles, pine kernels, and cocks’ combs. Sounds yummy, no?
And partaking wasn’t a choice—it was an expectation. No begging
off because of “food sensitivities” or it not being on your WW
points list, either.
Closer resemblances to our modern iteration of the wedding cake
inally rolled around later in the 17th century, when the bride and
groom each had their own cakes. Both were sweet and free of any
questionable animal parts (thank heaven), but still relatively simple.
Naturally, they were a sign of social status as well as a celebratory
confection, and size spoke volumes. The bigger the cake, the
higher your social status. In Victorian times, white icing meant
wealth and social standing, so white cakes were in high demand.
Fast forward again to present day, and you’ll see cakes that are
anything BUT white. The options in color, size, shape, and style
are endless, and people go all out when it comes to design. They
also get crazy with focus on lavor, as it’s no longer the expectation
to slice into the traditional white cake with traditional white
buttercream or royal icing. Flavor proiles run the gamut, from
sweet and fruity to decadent chocolate and even some that are
slightly tart. If you can dream it, there’s likely a pastry chef that can
execute it, making wedding cakes even more of a showstopper on
the big day.

CHRISTIANA & WILL
Spring 2020 69
Bride: Christiana Nadolny
Groom: Will Parham
Wedding Date: June 15, 2019
How You Met: We met while I was working
at my family’s coffee shop, The Drowsy Poet
Coffee Co., in Pensacola and going to school at
UWF for my Masters’ in English Lit. Will was a
Navy light student, and he would always come
and get a medium black coffee and a peanut
butter brownie bar while he studied. I knew his
order before I knew his name. One day, he was
reading George Lucas: A Life, the biography
of the guy who wrote and directed Star Wars.
I’m a Star Wars fanatic, so I asked him how the
book was because I’d been meaning to read it.
I think he was perturbed at being interrupted,
but he got my number later. We’re married
now, so I guess he got over it!

Quote from the Bride about her Groom:
“Will is my exact opposite, but I think being
different makes us a good team because we try
every angle when problem solving. There are so
many things I love about him, and he is always
surprising me and making me laugh. I’m not
looking forward to his deployments, but I love
knowing that he’s coming home to me.”
Quote from the Groom about his Bride:
“Getting to know and experience life together
with Christiana is an adventure. She’s exuberant
and unabashedly friendly and kind, but she
doesn’t pull punches when she thinks she’s
right—which she usually is. She loves so intently
and deeply that when you’ve made friends with
her, you just can’t say no to her. And I guess I’m
really bad at saying no to her.”

Fisayo & Joseph
Spring 2020 73
Bride: Fisayo Iboyi
Groom: Joseph Iboyi
Wedding Date: October 19, 2019
How You Met: We met on a street near the University of Ibadan, in Nigeria,
where Joseph had been working in the ields collecting data. I was out running
an errand for my mother and thought he was a “hot mess” in his work clothes,
all sweaty and dirty. I thought he must be a gardener. As we passed one another,
he turned around and boldly asked my name and suggested that we get to know
one another. I wanted to let him down gently, as he was kind and seemed to be
genuine. A short time later, we met again in the academic setting, and I realized
that he was a student, not a gardener. Additionally, Joseph’s lead professor for the
master’s program was my father. Because of the differences in our cultures and his
relationship with my father, we were initially friends, and I knew it would be dificult
for my father to accept him as a suitor. However, through my prayers and those of
my mother, my father came to accept Joseph and gave us his blessing.

Special Note: Due to the fact that the couple was previously married via Internet

Methodist Church helped Joseph plan a surprise wedding for Fisayo.

SALUTE TO
Hats off to this newlywed
couple, who is celebrating
their recent wedding.
LOVE
As a city with tight ties to the military
community, Pensacola is certainly one to
give ready salute to those who serve and
protect our country. Each year, thousands of
men and women in uniform ind themselves
anchoring to a new future in this patriotic
community; and as they prepare to take
on yet another change to their station in
life by pledging their love in marriage, we
stand in support and celebrate with them
by showing them just a little appreciation in
the form of discounts.
In fact, you’d probably be surprised at just
how many locally owned shops, boutiques,
and venues offer military discounts on their
goods and services. There are, of course,
the national chains that offer those perks;
but when it comes to your wedding day,
that bit of local love will really prove to be
a huge beneit in keeping to your budget.
Those military discounts are your well-
deserved thank you, so take full advantage!
As you plan each piece of your wedding,
from the dress to the venue rental and
catering services, ask if your military ID will
bring you any bliss, and then lash that card
with as much pride as you would show off
your engagement ring. After all, as part of
the military community—whether you’re
in the service yourself or are preparing to
become a military spouse—your service
should be honored, and on this day
celebrating your new journey, that honor is
a deinite I Do.
