Hear the cry of the earth

and the cry of the poor

Liturgy for Lent 2016

St Francis of Assisi reminds us that [the earth] our common home is like a sister with whom we share our life and a beautiful mother who opens her arms to embrace us.

Laudato Si’ #1

Response to the psalm:The earth is the LORD’s

and everything in it.

Psalm 24(adapted)

Let us begin our prayer by making the sign of the cross...

Ki te ingoa o te Matua, o te Tamaiti, o te Wairua Tapu.

Amene.

God made the world and all who live in it.

The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it.

God established the world on the seas.

The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it.

Who can climb the mountain of the Lord?

The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it.

The one who is honest with a pure heart.

The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it.

The good will receive blessings from the Lord.

The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it.

For they seek the face of God.

The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it.

Luke 6: 1-5 Jesus is the Lord of the Sabbath

This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

The good things of the earth belong to everyone.

But the rich use up the world’s resources at a rate that robs the poor nations of what they need to survive.

NZ Bishops’ Conference

The richest 20% use 80% of the world’s resources.

The heaviest impacts of climate change will probably fall on the poor.

Many poor people live in areas that are particularly affected by global warming.

Their livelihoods strongly depend on the natural world; farming, fishing and forestry.

Laudato Si’ # (paraphrased)

Christ, whom we remember in the bread.Remind us of those who are hungry.

Challenge us to see how our actions change the world.

Christ, whom we remember in the wine. Remind us of those who are thirsty.

Challenge us to see how our actions change the world.

Christ, we remember your perfect sacrifice.Remind us that you are with us as we seek to live differently.

Challenge us to see how our actions can change the world.

Call to be generous

Luke 6:38Be generous with what you have.

Be generous with your time.
