Health & Sports Challenge

Bikingby: Holly

When you’re biking, there are certain foods that will give you the energy and the nourishment to ride. Good eating plans for biking would consist

of low fat food, high carbohydrate foods and fluids to keep hydrated.

The digestive system breaks down these foods that you eat and takes the nutrition from them

that will give you the nourishment and the energy to go for a ride.

The muscles that benefit from riding your bike are obviously in your legs. These muscles are the gluteal muscles, quadriceps, hamstrings and calf

muscles.

These are the muscles used when you ride your bike.

When you think about it, you really do need your Nervous System for everything you do.

You need your brain for balance, to know when to break and slow down, pedaling ect. Your

brain functions your movement and your thoughts. You have control if you want to stop

or keep pedaling.

The Cerebellum is the part of the brain that controls balance, coordination, fine motor movement and coordination of muscle movement. If you hit this part of

your brain, you might have some trouble walking. This is the part of your brain that allows you to pedal and keep your balance.

So keep your helmet on!http://www.upstate.edu/pated/document/neuroanatomy.pdf

Cerebellum

You might notice that when you move around a lot, your heart starts pumping quite fast. The

purpose of your Circulatory System is to provide nutrients and remove waste from your

body. When you exercise, the body requires more nutrients and produces more waste. So,

therefore your heart beats faster. http://www.livestrong.com/article/131922-why-does-your-heart-beat-fast-when-you-exercise/

It pumps blood all through your body delivering oxygen to your cells. It provides nutrients and removes waste.

Exercising provides many health benefits. It also helps the respiratory system by strengthening

the lungs and breathing muscles. “The best type of exercise for the respiratory

system is aerobic exercise such as running, walking, hiking, biking and swimming.”

As you exercise at the right level, it trains the heart and lungs to deliver oxygen to the body more

efficiently. http://www.livestrong.com/article/334956-how-exercise-helps-the-respiratory-system/

Exercising is crucial when you have arthritis or any other pain in your bones. It helps with joint

pain and stiffness and increases strength and flexibility.

Continuously stretching will train your bones or let them adapt to your exercising system. As you exercise, it gradually gets easier. When you ride a bike, for example you might start out with 10-15

minutes and then after a while you can move on to 20-25 minutes.

As you know, when you workout, you tend to sweat depending on

how long you exercise.

The reason that we sweat is because the body or the excretory system is trying to cool the body. Sweat sits on the surface of the skin

creating a film and letting the heat escape from your body. When you exercise, you’re

constantly moving so you heat up and sweating is the body’s way of trying to cool down.

Scientists are still uncovering more information about the relation of the immune system and physical activity, but there is some evidence that too

much exercise at the wrong level can in fact make you sick.

If you get sick, you most likely won’t have the energy to do anything, let alone bike riding. You can do certain things that will strengthen your immune system; such as getting a full eight hours of sleep and

eating more healthy. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20110113183125AADjMfw
