Dear Parent/Carer

PE at The Hereford Academy: September 2020

I am writing to inform you about how PE will be catered for when students are welcomed back into schoolfrom September. The Hereford Academy see Sport and Physical Education as an important vehicle inmaintaining student health and wellbeing, therefore, all students will still receive at least 2 hours of PE perweek. In order for this to happen, there are some key changes below that will be implemented to ensure thatwe are working within current Government guidelines.

1. All year groups will have a dedicated day of PE, as shown below:-

MondayYear 7

TuesdayYear 8

WednesdayYear 9

ThursdayYear 10

FridayYear 11

Students will be in PE for the first 3 sessions of the day, apart from Year 8 who will be in PE, sessions 1 and 2.Once arriving at school, students will need to make their way to the sportshall and will be seated into theirform groups. Once registration has taken place, students will then be directed to drop off their bags andvaluables and be supervised to their first activity.

2. All students to wear correct Hereford Academy PE kit.

Students will be required to wear their PE kit into school on their dedicated PE day. They do not need to bringin school uniform for this day. This will minimise the need to use the changing room facilities and reducewashing need. The expected kit list can be seen below:-

The PE kit can be purchased from the Clubsport shop located in Hereford town centre or can be accessed viathe following link:-

It is imperative that students arrive to school with the correct PE uniform on. Any student who arrives atschool with kit that is deemed incorrect, will be sent home to change. The only students who will be permittedto arrive without PE kit are those who have valid medical reasons.

After school detentions will still stand for those who arrive without PE kit. Due to current guidelines, we areunable to loan out spare kit. Students who are injured or ill will be required to bring in a note to be excused, but will still be required to wear PE kit, unless medically impossible to do so. Non-participants will still attendPE and participate in lesson as coaches or through completing PE workbooks.

3. Activities will focus on skill and fitness development.

Students will still follow a varied curriculum that involves both individual and team activities. The winteractivities can be seen below:-

The delivery of these activities will strictly follow AfPE guidelines. Until directed otherwise, students will workin small groups, social distance will be maintained and there will be no contact/game situations. Passing ofequipment will be minimised and a regular equipment cleaning schedule will be followed.

In the first instance, there will not be any extra - curricular clubs or sporting fixtures run after school. We willendeavour to start running these as soon as guidance allows. The advice is constantly changing and we willkeep you updated if any major changes are made.

Your support with the above is much appreciated and will help us to continue to allow students at TheHereford Academy to continue to progress and experience high quality PE.

Finally, if you do have any issues or queries, please do not hesitate to contact us via the details below:-
