Itwill beheldat theschoolgymnasiumthisThursday,December1stat7:00pm.TheK-6grademusicclassunderthedirectionofPriscillaHansonwillstart thepro-gram.The 7& 8 grademusic classwill sing acoupleof toe-tappingnumbers. Alsoperform-ingwillbethehighschoolwomen’schoir,men’schoir, andmixed choir.Rounding out the nightwillbethecombined7-12band.

BlackFriday isperhaps thebiggestshoppingday of the year. It happens once a year, the dayrightafterThanksgiving.Itisknownhasthetradi-tionaldaytostartyourChristmasshopping.Majorretailersopentheirstoresatearliertimesthanusu-alandhavesalesonsomeofthemostsoughtafterproducts.This isamarketingstrategy thatworksverywellbecause retailersmakea tonofmoneyonBlackFriday.

Thisyear,BlackFridayliveduptoitsexpec-tations as an extremely hectic day to shop.Eco-nomicreportshavealreadyshownthatthisyear’ssalewasoneofthehighestgrossingdaysinU.S.history. Local stores took to making even moreprofit this year, opening even earlier than usual.TheWalmart inSiouxFalls started their sales at

10p.m.onThanksgivingDayand theSiouxEm-pireMallopenedatmidnight,allowingshopperstocomelateatnightandpurchaseproducts.

Many Canistota students and faculty set outonthis insanesellingfrenzyinorder togetgooddealsonproducts,whetheritwasforpersonaluseorevenholidaygiftsforlovedones.AmongthesestudentswereseniorsKatlynHeibergerandHaleyJerman. “I like going shopping on Black FridaybecauseIgetagooddealonallofmyChristmasgiftsthatIgetforothers,”saidKatlynHeiberger.HaleyJermangoesshoppingonBlackFridayev-eryyearandagrees that thisyearwasoneof themostextreme.“Thisyear’sBlackFridayasmoreintensethanever.Therewerea lotofgreatdealsbutthepeoplearecrazy.Mypersonalexperiencewasverystressful,”saidJerman.

Hofer and Schroeder head 9A All State TeamTwo seniors fromCanistota headed the 2011

9AAll State Football Team that was announcedlastweek. The team included6membersof theCanistotaHawkFootballTeam. Thosememberswere:TroyHofer,TrevorSchroeder,CodyBunger,EricTieszen,AlexRobertson,andNathanDick.

TroyHoferwasselectedasthe9AAllAmeri-canNomineeandFullback.Hoferwasthe9BAllStateFullbackfrom2010.Hoferhasbeenasolidperformer for theHawks during his high schoolfootball career. Hofer was third on the team inrushingwith121carriesfor877yards.Hescored15touchdownsand4conversions.Hewassecondontheteamintackleswith65soloand43assisted.For his career,Hofer rushed 336 times for 2500yards,scoring40touchdownsand24conversions.Defensively, Hofer finished his career with 213soloand100assistedtackles.

Trevor Schroeder was selected as a 9A AllStateTightEnd.Schroederwasthe9BHonorableMentionAllStateTightEndin2010. SchroederledtheHawksinreceivingthisseasonwith30re-ceptionsfor591yards.Hescored11touchdownsand7conversions.Forhiscareer,Schroederhad65receptionsfor1409yards.HeisCanistota’sca-reerleaderinreceivingyards,arecordpreviouslyheldbyColinPearson.SchroederalsoholdsCan-

istota’sCareerReceivingTouchdownrecordwith27.ThatisalsosecondalltimeintheStatefor9Manreceivers.Schroederfinishedhishighschoolcareerwith107soloand51assistedtacklesaswellas14sacksand6blockedpunts.Healsoscored4defensivetouchdownsand2safeties.

CodyBungerwasselectedasthe9AAllStateQuarterback.BungerledHawksinpassing.Bung-erwas52of89for948yards,19touchdownsandjust1interception.BungeralsoledtheHawksinrushingwith82attempts for1192yards, scoring16touchdownsand3conversions.

EricTieszenwasselectedasthe9AAllStateLinebacker. Tieszen, a three year starter for theHawks,ledtheteamintackleswith55soloand69assistedtackles.

AlexRobertsonwasselectedasthe9AHonor-ableMentionAllStateRunningBack.Robertsonwas second on the team in rushingwith 144 at-temptsfor1022yards.Hescored12touchdowns.Healsohad8receptionsfor135yardsand4touch-downs.

NathanDickwasselectedasthe9AHonorableMentionAllStateKicker.Nathanhad83kicksthisseason for 3497 yards including 20 touchbacks.Hewasalso6of10forextrapoints.

2011 Academic All State Football Team Announced

Tim Adams, Hal-ey Jerman, Trevor Schroeder, Taylor Van Winkle and Na-than Dick recently earned their Aca-demic All State Foot-ball Awards.

Award winners must have participated as a player, manag-er or statistician for at least 3 seasons. They must also have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 or better.

After graduation,Deon is going tomiss notbeingabletohangoutwithfriendsandplayingortalkingaboutfootball.
