Having an appointment using a video call

an Easy Read Guide

2 | Having an appointment using a video call

Kevin has agreed

for his appointment

to happen via video

call using an app on

his phone or laptop.

Kevin’s healthcare

professional gave him a

guide how to download

and use the app, if he finds

this difficult he can contact

them for help or still have

a telephone appointment

instead.

Kevin’s healthcare

professional told him

the date and time of the

appointment.

At the time of the

appointment Kevin

will stay at home and

talk to his healthcare

professional using his

phone or computer.

4 | Having an appointment using a video call

The appointment will still be

confidential; the healthcare

professional will be in a

private room. Kevin should

make sure he is alone or

only people he trusts are

present (the people who

would usually come to his

appointment with him).

When the appointment

begins Kevin should be

able to see and hear his

healthcare professional

if he can’t he should let

them know.

The healthcare

professional needs to

see and hear Kevin too,

he will make sure the

camera is facing him

and can be heard on

the microphone. The

healthcare professional

can offer advice to make

sure Kevin can be seen

and heard.

6 | Having an appointment using a video call

The healthcare

professional will explain

what will happen in the

appointment. Kevin can

ask questions at any

time if he is unsure about

anything.

At the end of the

appointment the healthcare

professional will ask Kevin

if he has any questions.

Kevin and the healthcare

professional can discuss

what will happen next

which may include planning

another appointment.

The call will end and

Kevin will continue

with his day.
