began with the number sign i.e. ("#").

A Metadata tag form.

specific keywords or phrases & tagged

by putting "#" before them.

Twitter was the first ever social

network to include Hashtag. It

helps and lead the user’s to a list

of other tweets that included the

same hashtag. Later on other

leading social network sites like

Facebook, Instagram, Vine,

Pinterest, Google+ etc. have

added the same hashtag features.

The History of Hashtags

#Sandiegofire Hashtag

Fast forward to October of 2007,

when Nate Ridder, a resident of San

Diego, California started

appending all his posts with the

hashtag #sandiegofire. It was

intended to inform people

worldwide about the ongoing

wildfires in the area at the time.

The first ever hashtag was used in

2007 by Chris Messina. The

#barcamp tag was used for

grouping posts related to

Nashville-based BarCamp

conferences taking place at the

time.
