To enhance the customer experience, Mitchells &
Butlers wanted to upgrade their existing EPoS
system. They moved from EBRS to a Zonal Aztec
system as part of their GO! Technology rollout. This
involved the deployment of new EPoS, Mobile
Ordering and Kitchen Management Systems at over
1,600 sites throughout the UK. Following a tender
process, Celestra was selected to complete the
detailed scope of work, which included: site surveys,
data & power cabling and shop fitting.
This was a particularly complex project as the Mitchells & Butlers estate is comprised of
17 different restaurant and pub brands including Harvester, All Bar One, Browns,
O’Neills, Miller & Carter, Vintage Inns and Toby Carvery. This challenged our team to
provide innovative solutions which met each brand’s high standards.
Celestra’s skilled and dedicated resources completed comprehensive site surveys to
understand each site’s unique requirements. In addition to assessing everything from
data & power to signal checks for the Wi-Fi, the survey document identified the exact
colour and material of each brand’s bar type. Celestra has produced over 1500 surveys,
all of which have been adapted to overcome different brand challenges and
requirements.
Using the robust site survey, our experienced and knowledgeable Hardware Team
utilised Celestra’s longstanding network of partners to procure all the requirements for
the project.
Throughout the project Celestra was required to provide high quality shop fitting
solutions. A great example of this was the custom designed stainless steel cash drawer
sleeves we produced. These were designed with an integrated cash drawer bracket and
till riser to raise the till up to the level of the bar. In addition to being more accessible,
placing the till at bar level will allow Mitchells & Butlers to utilise the digital media
capability built into their Zonal i700 tills. Further to this, our lead Shop Fitter and
Project Manager designed custom plinths to match the furnishings of every site’s bar
from granite, brass to six shades of colour custom wood.
Our Shop Fitting team attended site from 7am on go-live day to start the shop fitting
process and carry out the necessary tasks in accordance with the survey. Working in
partnership with Zonal, our team removed existing shrouds, fitting the colour matched
decorative plinth to each bar to seat the EPoS terminal upon. In addition to this,
Celestra fitted suitable shelf extensions to house cash drawers.
Restaurants which Mitchells & Butlers regarded as providing full table service required
the installation of QSR kitchen management systems (KMS). KMS is a computerised
digital management system which controls and reports on food preparation through
kitchen screens and a bump bar. Our cabling teams were responsible for supplying the
data and power requirements for this system overnight. However, the installation of
kitchen screens for KMS presented challenges. The screens needed to be securely
mounted and this required our Shop Fitting team to build above ceiling support to
securely mount the screens into position. Each site required a customised solution from
attaching the screens to plaster board ceilings to overhead anchor points.
Due to our Team’s can-do attitude all go-lives have a 100% success rate. From
providing out of hours support to ensuring each brand’s standards were upheld, they
managed all project activity seamlessly. The introduction of the Zonal Aztec system has
integrated EFPOS chip & PIN devices with point to point encryption, future proofed the
EPoS and improved the productivity in Mitchells & Butlers pubs and restaurants. We
look forward to continuing to work closely with Mitchells & Butlers to provide flexible
and robust solutions which are implemented with great attention to detail and first class
craftsmanship.
“With a project of this nature it was important to fully understand not only the
requirements of Mitchells & Butlers, but also to understand the functionality for each
brand. I am very proud of this project and those that took part to ensure all tasks were
completed to an excellent standard and to schedule. The technology installed acts as
the backbone to the future-proofed infrastructure. As time goes on, Mitchells & Butlers
can rest assured knowing that their solutions not only meets today’s requirements, but
has the ability to handle new technology as it becomes available.”
