Hamilton Golf and Country Club Foundation (est. 2012)

Mission Statement:The HGCC Foundation aspires to be an outstanding philanthropic organization serving the Hamilton community.

Vision Statement:To be a significant charitable contributor to the community where we live, work and play.

Background:

The HGCC Board, membership, management and staff of Hamilton Golf and Country Club (HGCC) have a long history of supporting the Club’s charitable work. The Club’s founders determined early on that the Club must serve and contribute to the local community and the Provincial and National golf associations. A key decision was made almost 50 years ago to take the “do it yourself” approach as opposed to donating the course to a third party charitable organization for their fundraising events. Since 1970, Club members have raised over $3,200,000 for local Hamilton charities primarily through two annual fundraising events; The Dick Borthwick Memorial Golf Tournament and the Women’s Par for a Cause. The fact that these fundraising efforts have been member-driven has made the work even more meaningful. Such efforts are a legacy that has been passed on by former Club leaders and is a tradition that current and future Board members are pleased to continue.

The Hamilton Golf and Country Club Foundation was established in 2012 and meets the requirements for a charitable registration under the Income Tax Act. Due to the course renovation project & Covid-19, planned fund raising initiatives in 2020 were put on hold. Thanks to our HGCC membership, the direct donation campaign and the 9 East demolition event along with other member-directed donations, the Foundation was able to donate $130,889 to seven local Hamilton charities during 2020.

The Women’s annual charity event “Par for a Cause” is scheduled to be held in the summer 2021. The Foundation is hoping to hold a gala Dinner Dance in the fall of 2021 to support our designated 2021 charities.

2021 Board Members:

Chris Bellefeuille (Vice President), Donna Calder Louth (Secretary), Patrick Collins, Joel Ippolito (HGCC Board Liaison), Richard Lennox (ex-officio), Alan Scott (President), Bill Searle, Brian Short (Treasurer), David Short (ex-officio), Michael Stewart, Keegan Therrien

Members wishing to learn more about the HGCC Foundation are encouraged to contact any of the Foundation Board Members listed above or the Club Chief Operating Officer.

Golfing Rules and Regulations

All players are requested to familiarize themselves with the rules and etiquette of golf. Play on the course is governed by the rules of golf (as approved by the Royal and Ancient Golf of St. Andrews, Scotland and the U. S. G. A.), by the by-law of the Club and by the rules and regulations approved by the Board of Directors.

The Club’s rules and regulations have been developed over the years by the various committees. The Board is pleased to receive and consider any suggestions that members may wish to make in writing concerning play on the course. The Captain’s Committee is also involved in such matters and is authorized by the Board to review and decide on any complaints received in writing concerning members’ conduct on the course, subsequent to a review by the Chief Operating Officer.

The rules and regulations that follow are in effect whenever the golf course is open and whatever the time of the year.

Starting Arrangements

All golfers must report and register in the Professional Shop; once all members of a group have checked in that group will be assigned a queue number on the Starting Sheet. Order of play will be visible on the Club TV monitors. Groups are teed off in sequential order with tee priority given to the group with the lowest number.

Category B and C members are welcome to report, check in, and get a queue number at any time. However, the queue number assigned to Category B and C golfing groups (or groups consisting of 1 or more Category B or C golfers) does not have any merit or priority until the very moment the restriction is lifted. Once the restriction is lifted all numbers have merit and Category A, B, and C groups will tee off in sequential numerical order with the priority being given to the group with the lowest number.

27

Category B and C members may only tee off during times which are available to them (see playing privileges page 32).

In order to provide sufficient time for hand mowing of greens ahead of play, golfers will be allowed to start as follows:

Weekdays:June, July, August from 7:30amApril, May, September, October from 8:00am

Weekends & Holidays from course opening until Men’s Opening Day:Course opens for play at 7:30am

policy dictates no golfer shall tee off until the group in front has physically reached the first green.

2. Maintain pace of play with group ahead.3. Allow groups behind through, should your group fall one clear hole behind the

group ahead.4. If looking for lost balls, allow groups through.5. If holed out, please leave the green at once.6. The expected time par for any 18 hole match is 4 hours and 10 minutes.

Rights of WayMembers playing in Club competitions and matches are entitled to the right of way, except on Saturdays, Sundays, and Holidays. Competitors should inform the players ahead that they are playing in a competition and request to be allowed to go through from the tee.

Golfers must play the nines assigned to them by the Professional or Starter. Players deviating from their assigned nines have no precedence at the first tee of any nine.

The onus is on the golfers who do not rest between nines to request permission to go through from the golfers who have stopped at a half-way house.

Short course players who have finished nine holes and wish to play a second nine must take their turn with players waiting to start at the 1st tee.

Single players have no rights on the course and may not request permission to play through and must allow any following match to play through.

Weather Warning The Club employs a “Thorguard” Weather Warning device. One long blast means play is suspended and golfers must take cover or leave the course. Three short blasts means resume or start play. Members are urged to heed all such warnings.

Automated External Defibrillator (AED)The Club has two (2) AEDs on site. There is one at the Back Shop and one at the Clubhouse Reception. Fourteen (14) staff members are certified to use the AED.

Professional Shop ServicesThe Directors of the Club respectfully request members purchase their golf equipment and golf balls from the Professional Shop. Members desiring appointments for lessons or rounds of play with the professionals must arrange these with the professional staff.

A charge of $270 is included in your membership fees for the various Professional Shop services including club cleaning, use of the driving range for themselves and their accompanied guests, and handling of pull and power carts. The charge for Juniors is $135.

29

A Winter Golf School is held in the Club Storage area. In order to make room for it, members are requested to remove their belongings from the Club Storage area by November 10th. Members leaving their equipment in winter storage after this date will be charged a $50 fee.

If golf equipment is to be removed from Club property, it must be done during hours of service. Golf equipment cannot be left outside or anywhere else on the premises for later pick up.

The Club is not responsible for members’ golf equipment or belongings left on its property including both the locker rooms and Club storage areas. It is recommended that members who leave their possessions at this Club have them insured under their own individual property coverage.

CaddiesDue to COVID-19, caddie service is currently on hold. Updates will be provided to membership when this program resumes.

Power Carts & Power Pull CartsPower golf carts can be reserved and rented for the Professional Shop subject to the rules and regulations published by the Club from time to time.

Members may use their own power pull cart at the Club for an annual trail fee of $100 for a single user, or $150 for a married or spousal couple sharing one unit. Please contact the Professional Shop for further information.

Power Cart Rental Fees

Championship Course Short Course18 Holes 9 Holes

1 Bag $26.50 $17.00 $13.00

2 Bags $22.50 $15.00 $10.50

Multi Bags $18.50 $12.00 $8.00

Two riders only are permitted on a power cart at any one time. Please do not allow caddies to ride on the back. Members renting power carts are responsible for any damage. All fees are subject to HST.

Rules Governing the Use of Power Carts & Pull CartsIn order to better manage the use of power carts and to ensure that members understand certain restrictions that are placed on their use from time to time, the following policy has been established by the Course & Grounds Committee and approved by the Board of Directors.

30

The intention is to open the course for play as early as possible in the Spring and close it as late as possible in the Fall for those who wish to walk. Generally, a later opening date and an earlier closing date will be necessary for power cart use in order to protect and assist in turf growth. Weather and growing conditions will dictate opening and closing dates.

During the golf season, power cart use will be temporarily prohibited from time to time as noted above, to protect the turf on our golf courses. This is especially necessary when the courses are excessively wet or dry, as well as, in the early Spring and late Fall when there is little or no active turf growth and no ability for the turf to recover quickly from wear.

The Golf Course Superintendent has authority over power cart use with the full support of Club Management, the Course & Grounds Committee and the Board of Directors. When using power carts, members and their guests must follow cart paths, carts must never leave a cart path on par 3 holes or drive in the rough. The Course & Grounds Committee expects users of power carts and pull carts to adhere to the regulations which are designed to minimize damage to our course and to protect fairways, tees and approaches.

Use of Power Carts1. Only two riders at a time. Please do not allow caddies to ride on the back.2. White marker posts indicate which side to exit from and the nearest point a cart should

approach the cart path at the entry and exit point of each fairway.3. Restricted cart use will in effect should weather conditions dictate. Under such

conditions, Golf Shop staff will inform cart users of any restrictions.4. Drivers must be a least 16 years old with a valid driver license. Any junior member

between the age of 16 to 18 and who has a valid G1 Driver License can apply to rent/borrow a power cart with consent from their parent/guardian. (Form available online / golf shop.)

Medical Flag Policy

The Medical Flag Policy was adopted in consideration of members who are unable to play without restriction due to legitimate physical limitations. This policy is designed to allow qualified members access to normally restricted areas of the golf course.

The policy applies to the qualified member only.

To participate in this program the member must annually present, in writing, to the Chief Operating Officer or Head Golf Professional, their intent to enter the program and sign off accepting the bue flag routing policy.

31

Golf Fixtures ProtocolThe Board, on the recommendation of the Course & Grounds Committee, has approved a protocol governing the approval of member sponsored and other events at the Club. Under this protocol, all requests for such events have to be filed with the Men’s or Women’s Captains’ Committee before November 1st of each year. The Captains’ Committees are responsible for evaluating each request on the basis of certain agreed upon criteria and recommending its approval or rejection to the Board through the Course & Grounds Committee.

Informal Member Golf EventsSometimes a group of members will organize an informal tournament among themselves. These member events are an integral part of the Club’s activities and are encouraged so long as they do not interfere with the play and enjoyment of other members. When they involve members only, such events are not subject to the protocol described in the preceding section but they must comply with all rules concerning play and playing privileges, whatever the time of year and all pace of play rules apply. Observe regular check-in and starting procedures. If more than 16 players, please discuss with the Club Professional at least three days ahead of time. Should the Professional Shop staff anticipate there may be a problem with the integration of the event with normal play, Professional Shop staff may direct a more appropriate time frame for the event to occur (different time or date).

Hole-in-One ClubAll adult golfing members are automatically enrolled. Those who score a hole in one on a permanent championship course green may host a party for their fellow members at this Club. The cost of this function is paid for by all hole in one members. Hole in one scored on a temporary green or the short course are not eligible.

If a hole in one is made, the member may also spend up to $200 (Canadian) at the Club where it was scored (including our own Club) and on the date it was scored, for refreshments. This credit will only be given where applicable.

Member Playing Privileges

Members are requested to check the Calendar of Events to ensure that fixtures are not scheduled which might conflict with their normal playing privileges.

Mondays are course maintenance days at the Club. The course will be closed each Monday (other than holidays) until 9am during the Golf Course Improvement Plan. However, work such as aeration and top dressing which affects play could be scheduled and you should watch for any announcements. Please govern your schedule accordingly, especially matches.
