Often sourced from the same forests, European oak

and European ash grow side-by-side. The hardwood

from these trees is similar in many ways, yet markedly

different in others.

European oak is characterized by a less prominent

grain, neutral tan colour and raw, natural

appearance.

European ash has a blond undertone and open

grain. Both woods are an ideal choice for a variety

of surface treatments and colours.

You can specify Hakwood’s European oak flooring

in eight different grades. Each grade has specific

characteristics that impact the overall look of the

finished flooring.

Of Hakwood’s three distinct grades in European

ash, the most pristine provides a subdued,

clean look from the sapwood. In contrast, the

combination of sapwood and heartwood creates

a boldness in other grades.
