HAIRI  Brown  Bag    Meeting  Notes  January  23,  2015  

 1.  Intros    

• Introductions  by  attendees  (see  table  of  participants  below)    2.  Next  Meeting    

• Previous  suggested  date  was  March  13  but  that  is  just  before  Spring  Break  • New  meeting  set  for  April  3rd  (Friday  at  noon)    • Possible  topics:    “Biophilia”  discussion  (psychology  and  love  of  nature)  or  Panel  of  equine  therapy  

folks;  VOTE:  Equine  Panel  is  the  winner.    

3.  Website  • Working  hard  to  get  the  HAIRI  website  up  • be  on  the  look  out  for  email  for  your  bio  and  permission  to  list  you  

 4.  Research  

• Update  on  dog  study  -­‐  about  to  roll  it  out.  Still  waiting  on  IRB  approval.    • Update  on  the  equine/dog  and  autism  study-­‐    Looking  at  therapies  that  have  been  done  already  

and  the  design  of  various  studies.  Would  be  good  for  this  team  to  talk  to  the  pediatrics  folks.    They're  looking  at  it  if  their  (children  with  ASD)  social  interaction  change  when  a  dog  is  present.  Comparing  this  with  a  human  vs.  dog.  Collaborate  to  include  3rd  comparison  with  horse.  Great  opportunity  for  partnership!  

• “Animality”  -­‐  Are  there  animal  dimensions  in  human  personality  that  have  to  do  with  animal  relationships?  Data  analysis  on  undergrads...results  -­‐  predicted  that  interactions  with  animals  are  independent  of  one  another.    You  might  be  good  with  animals,  but  not  necessarily  with  people.
