A city expanding to its outer walls.

In the world;

At this rate,be ready for this:

We believe it IS.Since the beginning of 1980s,tourism has boomed in Çeşme and in many hotels or tourism companies have been settled here in a very fast pace. The people whose main work was farming sold their land for hotels, shops etc. Most of the green area now has been turned into buildings.

Is urbanization a problem in Çeşme?

Urban / Rural Population in Çeşme in Years

The biggest impact on Çeşme’s landscape is the Çeşme-İzmir Highway. (o 32)

The highway was built in 1997.

It cost € 200.000.

It’s 80 km. long.

Thousands of trees were cut to build it.

Tonnes of concrete was used.

YES: The old road was not enough. The highway

shortened the way. The summer population of Çeşme is 500.000

and 250.000 cars come to Çeşme every weekend.

Trucks to Europe use the highway and they go to Italy directly with Ro-Ros.

Was the highway necessary for a distance of 80 km.?

NO: It cost much money. It wasn’t profitable. Thousands of trees were cut . In Alaçatı the habitat of birds was effected. The trucks and other cars produce a huge

amount of exhaust fumes.

Was the highway necessary for a distance of 80 km.?

As a conclusion technology is good if we use it wisely.
