Part 1 of 2 in Green Future Series

Innovation is Here!

• In order to combat the world’s more problematic environmental issues, scientists, researchers, and architects have been coming up with exciting and innovating fixes.

PaveGen

• British company PaveGen has created sidewalk tiles that harvest renewable energy from every footstep.

• They use a technology, which converts kinetic energy to electricity.

• The electricity is stored and later used for things like pedestrian lighting and wayfinding advertising.

• This technology is best suited for highly populated urban environments.

Sidewalks = Powerplants

PaveGen Tiles

• Pavegen tiles are made from recycled materials and are designed to withstand harsh weather environments.

• It also gives people the chance to interact with renewable energy, making it all the more interesting and fun!

• For more information check out Pavegen’s website.

Nuclear Waste = Nuclear Power

• One major issue scientists are dealing with is what to do with nuclear waste?

• An easy solution is to use it to create nuclear power.

Nuclear Power

• Nuclear power is one of the cleanest energy sources out there.

• But the topic raises a lot of concern amongst the public especially after the 2011 Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster.

GE’s PRISM

• However, the General Electric’s PRISM recently created a reactor that is carbon-free and can be run on nuclear fuel from water-cooled reactors, basically turning waste into energy.

• Find out more about GE’s PRISM check out their website.
