Introduction

Section 1 (Green Man – Everyone on site)• Introduction• Hazards• Consequences• Responsibilities

Section 2 (Red Man – Operators, Banksmen, Safety & anyone working in close proximity)• Responsibilities• Blind Spots• Hand & Arm Signals

Who is a Green Man?

Someone who…

• Has been formally trained on the hazards associated with heavy equipment operations & blind spot areas

• Understands the minimum safe distance from equipment• Understands the dangers and consequences of breaking the

minimum safe distance threshold (Red Man Area)• Is not authorized to be in the Red Man Area• Knows the hand & arm signals to stop work• Has the authority to stop unsafe work

Who is a Red Man?

Someone who…

• Can be authorized by the contractor to guide equipment operations • Can be a trained and tested equipment operator• Has been formally trained on proper equipment guidance techniques• Has been tested on his application of these techniques• Knows the capabilities and limitations of equipment• Can relay information & guide the equipment operator, uses hand &

arm signals to relay information & guidance• Knows what actions to take in the event of a hazardous situation • Knows the required hand & arm signals• Has the authority to stop unsafe work
