Graffiti
Graffiti is the art of painting on walls and other public surfaces with spray paint.
The term was first used by the Romans to indicate writing on the wall.
Spray is the traditional tool, but markers and brushes can also be used.
Graffiti first started in New York, in the early 1970s.
Graffiti has always been tolerated by the law and the public.
However, graffiti is today also used by gangs of vandals who want to give a message of menace and violence to people.
VERY Bad Guys
In the United States today there are “legal walls” – places where graffiti artists can do their paintings without fear of being arrested.
In Australia and many other countries graffiti is seen as a sport.
Quite Good Guys
Graffiti is meant to be a public display for everybody who wants to look at while walking in the street, going to work, taking the underground.
