To the director:This piece is intended to provide a fun experience for asmany percussionists as possible—the more the merrier! (Youcan even recruit some volunteers from the wind section.)The tom-tom part (floor tom is ideal) can be doubled byany number of low drums, such as snare drums with snaresoff, extra toms, congas, bongos, etc. Make sure the eighthnotes swing in a manner reminiscent of Sing, Sing, Sing. Inthe absence of hi-hat cymbals, you may substitute chokedcrash cymbals. Keep the backbeat strong (hi-hat andtambourine), and have a swinging good time!
