Romans 1:1-2

Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God—the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures

Romans 1:3-4

regarding his Son, who as to his human nature was a descendant of David, and who through the Spirit of holiness was declared with power to be the Son of God by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 1:5-6

Through him and for his name’s sake, we received grace and apostleship to call people from among all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith. And you also are among those who are called to belong to Jesus Christ.

Romans 1:14-15

I am obligated both to Greeks and non-Greeks, both to the wise and the foolish. That is why I am eager to preach the gospel also to you who are at Rome.

Romans 1:16-17

I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: ‘The righteous will live by faith.’

The gospel is good news because it reveals God’s LOVE for us.

God took the message of His love and WRAPPED it in flesh.

God’s love is not tied to your effort, but to the fact that He CREATED you.

Other religions focus on how do we achieve, the gospel how do we RECEIVE the gift of God.

The gospel is good news because God stepped into HISTORY

Our sin SEPARATES us from a holy God.

There are PROMISES of the gospel throughout the Old Testament (check out Isaiah 53)

God didn’t add something else for us to do, but came to us in PERSON to do what we could not.

“…while the essence of salvation is God SUBSTITUTING Himself for man…” (John Stott)

The gospel is good news because it is for EVERYONE who responds in FAITH.

Obedience STEMS from faith, not faith from obedience.

The gospel is the POWER of God for salvation.

The word ‘BELIEVES’ is not merely intellectually agreeing to the facts, but placing our trust and confidence in Jesus.
