ppt on goal setting

TRANSCRIPT

Anyone who does anything worthwhile anywhere has consciously or unknowingly followed through on a goal.

Goals keep us focused on a purpose.

Goals tells us that where we have to go.

They help us through difficult times when many others less motivated would give up.

A person who wants to get the most out of life often has a number of goals simmering at the same time, in their personal and business lives.

State each goal as a positive statement:

express your goals positively - 'Execute this

technique well' is a much better goal than

'don't make this stupid mistake'

Set priorities: Give priorities to your goals when they are many

Set realistic goalsSet the goals that you can achieve

Be precise: Set a precise goal, putting in dates,

times and amounts so that you can measure achievement.

don’t inhibit

Be specific and realistic about what it is that you want to achieve.  "I want to live in a nice house," is an open-ended dream compared to, "I want to own a three bedroom house with two bathrooms in Orange County."  The more detailed you can be about what it is that you want to do or have the better.

An example of this is a hockey goalkeeper who sets the goal of making 10 saves a game.

Don’t overreach yourself. “Your goals should be realistic, based on your resources, skills and weaknesses,” says Vivek Sharma, a marketing professional in an FMCG company who made a successful move into the sales side. “Play to your strengths, and at the same time, work on your weaknesses. If required, take someone’s help. Your new career goal should be within reach.”

You want to create goals that are in-line with your personal mission statement or your purpose in life. Relevant goals ensure that you are dedicating your effort towards goals that are focused towards who you are as a person. It is similar to a college curriculum that focuses on specific courses for each major.

Set a deadline for your goals.  Your deadline doesn't have to be exact, but it should be your best guess.  Your deadlines must be realistic based on your goals.  If you're a part-time worker making minimum wage, don't make your goal to have earned a million dollars by the end of the year . Give yourself enough time to accomplish what you've set out to achieve.

Enjoy the goal you achieved. If you achieved the goal too easily, make your

next goals harder If the goal took a dispiriting length of time to

achieve, make the next goals a little easier If you learned something that would lead you

to change other goals, do so If while achieving the goal you noticed a deficit

in your skills, decide whether to set goals to fix this.
