Chief Guest Dr. A Ganesan, the keynote Speaker for the conference emphasized that Library
and Information Service profession is one of the most challenging professions in the knowledge
society. Librarians face complex challenges posed by recent trends in Information and
Communication Technology. The role of the Library professional has become more dynamic
and challenging in the modern world. He covers the role of library and information service
professionals that have undergone a large degree of change in recent years. He discussed the
professional skill necessary for library professionals and considers how these are acquired and
developed to survive in an ever changing technological environment and to meet the future
challenges of the 21st century. The role of library professionals’ just changes their identity, e.g.
Information professors, Information consultant etc. To cope with the rapid changes of the
technology and to control the ephemeral rate of information generation, librarians along with
their professional colleagues will have to equip themselves as per the requirement of electronic
information society.
Guest for the Day Mr. Parag Warty mentioned the libraries as the power house of new
knowledge and a non profit service entity undertakes the marketing concepts to meet the
needs of users. Due to the rising cost, change in information demand and increasing network
based information service pushing academic libraries to adopt marketing techniques to
increase users’ satisfaction and sustainability of quality is the need of the hour .
Welcome & Key Note Address by Director General Dr. Ajit Singh:
“As we in academia are well aware, management institutions are burgeoning at a
bewildering pace all over the country. By corollary, knowledge has come centre-stage. Its
importance and relevance to modern day management cannot be emphasized. Library
science is one socio-technical structure for knowledge organization. And, we should be happy
to note that Library Information Science has kept in lock-step with these recent
developments.”
Welcome & Key Note Address by Director, Prof.Dr Vidya Hattangadi:
According to one of the greatest thinker and philosopher of the nineteenth century E.B.Huey of MIT ‘Reading is the means by which the world does a large part of its work………. The slightest improvement either in the page or in the method of reading means a great service to the human race. Most of us accumulate knowledge by reading. Reading is an opportunity not only to gather information - to examine facts, to refurnish our knowledge, and to broaden our vocabulary. Reading is an art, which improves with practice. Books can really be the best friends of a human.
