• Created 1972 – Executive Order of the Governor of Wisconsin

• 10 County RegionCalumet, Fond du Lac, Green Lake, Marquette, Menominee, Outagamie, Shawano, Waupaca, Waushara, and Winnebago Counties

• Many different types of planning disciplinesTransportation, Economic Development, Community Development, Open Space, Safe Routes to School, Aquatic Invasive Species, Sewer Service, and Mine Reclamation

• GIS/IT Departments

ECWRPC and Economic Development

• East Central is designated as an Economic Development District (EDD) by the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) for purposes of area wide economic planning and to guide the investment of Federal funds for economic development.

• Reporting and reviews occur to assure following rules set by the EDA on economic development projects throughout the region and as a way to offer suggestions on compliance.

Comprehensive EconomicDevelopment Strategy (CEDS)

• The CEDS document is a report that provides baseline data, strategies, and lists economic development projects within the region. It is one of many tools in the economic development toolkit

• An update is completed every five years and a supplemental annual report is submitted for all other years.

• This year’s version is supplemental annual report 3 of 4 before we do the full update in 2013.

Northeast Wisconsin GlobalTrade Strategy

• EDA grant in collaboration with Bay Lake RPC and a consultant (Newmark Knight Frank) to understand the strengths of businesses in Northeast Wisconsin and finding a way to get their goods into the global market.

• 18 County study area – ECWRPC and Bay Lake RPC regions combined.

• Members of private and public sector entities sit at the table to discuss and game plan.

• Industry clusters, international demand of goods and fair trade agreements have been taken into consideration.

• GIS plays a role by performing the asset mapping and inventorying of clusters by using NAICS codes within the Business Analyst business data.

• Three stakeholder meetings have taken place.

• NAICS codes have been chosen and interviews with businesses within those industry clusters have taken place.

• Newmark Knight Frank has a global network and research has been done to see global trends and how Wisconsin compares to it.

• Surveys have been sent out to businesses within the clusters to ask questions about participating in global trade.

• Summarize survey results

• Finalize asset mapping, and report materials

• Distribute and implement the plan and get products from NE Wisconsin out to the world!

Technical Assistance

• City of Brillion – Economic and Demographic profile sheets

• Update population, housing, employment numbers using Census 2010 data and other workforce development data sources.

• Used Business Analyst to perform a 45 minute drive time analysis to show population and potential workforce to existing and potential new businesses.

• Hot spot map – not included in the profile sheets – to compare drive time population findings to get a better idea of where the population really is.

What’s next?

• Northeast Wisconsin Travel Demand Model

• Use business employment data and determine if the transportation network is how it should be.

• Use City of Brillion (or similar community) as a pilot project to get an economic development product created and show it off around the region.

• Continue to be economic development data support for communities in the region.

• Keep updated with the many, many data sources out there.
