Girls

Rising –

One at a TIME!

By being part of this project you too commit to act in solidarity with girls’ suffering, exclusion, lack of

opportunity, violence because of their gender, denial of human rights, forced marriage, rape.

“Data has proven that 66 million girls are missing out on the

education that could transform their own lives and the world .”

Thanks to all of you for being part of our International Network. We WILL NOT

STOP until every girl has an opportunity to attend school.

In the past girls from this school have helped to build a school in Cambodia, provided scholarships, and now you are helping to build a school in Sudan.

Did you know that in some cultures, Protecting a Girl’s honor and sexuality means marrying a young girl to protect her family’s honor?

“Did you know that poor families are

tempted to sell their girl children, not just

for marriage, but into prostitution, as the dollar transaction

enables large sums of money to change

hands?”

“I was married to a nine-year-old boy when I was three . . . .

“I had the first of my 7 children

when I was 11 years-old.”

If current levels of child marriage hold, 14.2 million girls annually or 39,000 daily will

marry too young!

Tahani, 8, is seen here with her husband Majed, 27. Her classmate Ghada, 8, and her husband of 29, outside

their house.

Child marriage, which has existed for centuries, is a deeply complex issue, rooted in

gender inequality, tradition and terrible poverty.

HOW CAN WE

HELP?

RAISE AWARENESS

ABOUT THE PLIGHT OF GIRLS AND

ISSUES SURROUNDING

THEIR LIVES.

Do not be overwhelmed, and recognize that while we cannot save every girl, we

can help, and have helped, many!
