human capital—people power—to help address emerging community needs.

o Each year, national and community service participants and grantees recruit hundreds of thousands of volunteers, who donate millions of hours of service to their communities.

Our Mission... to improve lives, strengthen communities, and foster civic engagement through service and volunteering.

o Includes: RSVP, Foster Grandparents, & Senior Companions

Learn and Serveo Grants are awarded to schools,

colleges, and community groups to engage students in service-learning opportunities.

o Service-learning links academic studies to community service

o In the next few years, the number of AmeriCorps members will more than triple!

o AmeriCorps members are expected to reach over 250,000 in number across the US!!

What are the benefits?

What are the options for a HS grad?

o AmeriCorps*NCCCo AmeriCorps*State and National

o Full-time program for 18 to 24-year-olds

o 10-month term of service.

o Housing and meals provided

o Teams of 10-14 travel throughout their area to serve on a series of 6-8 week projects

o Five NCCC campuses throughout the country: -Denver, CO -Perry Point, MD-Sacramento, CA -Vinton, IA -Vicksburg, MS

o NCCC members frequently serve on projects focused on meeting the country’s homeland security and disaster response needs.

o Wisconsin is served by the Vinton, Iowa Campus!

AmeriCorps NCCC(National Civilian Community Corps)

What do NCCC members DO?

Hands-on, direct service, especially in environmental conservation and disaster relief.

Examples include:

Infrastructure improvement Environmental stewardship & conservation Energy conservation Urban and rural development Construct and rehabilitate low-income housing Respond to natural disasters Clean up streams Help communities develop emergency plans

AmeriCorps*State and National

o Largest AmeriCorps program, with 65,000 members serving annually in nonprofit organizations, public agencies, and faith-based organizations

o AmeriCorps State and National projects are in every state, in U.S. territories, and on tribal reservations

o Programs are open to U.S. citizens, nationals, or lawful permanent resident aliens age 17 and older

o Members may serve full- or part-time (while in college) over a period not to exceed 12 months

o AmeriCorps Members work directly on projects and tasks with communitieso Tutoring & Educationo Building Houseso Environmental Projectso Community Centers & Non-Profits

o Full-time volunteers assigned to non-profit organizations and local agencies to help develop lasting solutions to poverty in America.

o VISTA members strengthen and support these organizations by:o Building infrastructure o Recruiting community volunteerso Securing long term resourceso Help build long term sustainability for the anti-poverty effort.

o One year commitment o Members may NOT have another jobo Members do not engage in direct service.o After completing service, members receive 1 year of non-

competitive eligibility for federal positions.
