THE CITY #THECITY#
The Lower Rhine Region is an age-oldcultural landscape in which 500,000year-old archaeological discoveries leadback into the old stone-age; a time beforethe Neanderthals. It is no wonder then thata region with such a long and rich historyhas so many sights to offer. Manors andcastles can be found in number andvariation not to be seen anywhere else inEurope.
Big cities in the close neighbourhood ofWeeze, such as Cleves, Duisburg andKrefeld, Nijmegen, Arnhem and Den Boschwill captivate you with great historicalbuildings dated in the 13th century as wellas modern architecture.
Shopping in the Lower Rhine is a first rateexperience: there is a huge variety ofshops, markets, and shopping malls dottedover the entire Lower Rhine, both on theGerman as well as the Dutch side. Stroll onthe shopping lanes, taste the atmosphereof the many city festivals and have a drinkon one of the terraces in the cities alongthe shores of the Rhine; it’s a fantasticplace to be.
If you like the outdoor pursuits then youwill love the region which is abundant inthings to do including walking through thepicturesque countryside or using the manycycle tracks. There are numerous watersand streams in the region, such as theriver Rhine, the stream Niers, the riverMeuse and Waal, which snake past inns,
manor houses and cafes. It’s a dreamterrain for cycling, hiking, riding and watersports.
