In 1985, the NCIC Advisory Policy Board issued a policy requiring each agency using NCIC services to appoint a Terminal Agency Coordinator (TAC). Then

ACCESS TO GCIC SYSTEMS

Why so many user IDs and passwords?

Access to criminal history record information is restricted and confidential. All GCIC programs are

housed and protected behind a SSL/VPN. First, you must gain access to the SSL/VPN then the programs

within.

GCIC OVERVIEW REV 8/16

The SSL/VPN

The SSL/VPN User ID and Password allows access to GCIC systems through the firewall (the vault). Once inside you still need a separate User ID and Password TO ACCESS each program (the drawers)

Think of the SSL/VPN as a bank vault and GCIC programs as the drawers inside. Even if you get in the vault, you still need to get into the drawers!
