• How Gatorade came about: – A University of Florida assistant

coach wondered why his athletes where not performing at their best and asked researchers to figure out why.

– Researchers found that the players were losing electrolytes and fluids through sweat.

• The researchers then came up with a beverage that helped to replenish the lost electrolytes and this product was named Gatorade.

• Gatorade is also a product of Pepsi's and is its 4th largest brand as of 2009.

• In 1983 Gatorade was deemed the official sports drink of the NFL (A title it still holds today)

Climate

• Many people drink Gatorade as an everyday beverage, when it is intended for athletic performance

• Changed all products to not contain High Fructose Corn Syrup to fit today’s societies trend of healthier products

• Gatorade now offers an “Elite” series that contains twice the sodium and three times the potassium for elite endurance athletes.

• Target market– Mainly athletes– Aged 18 – 25– Sports like: Soccer, basketball, baseball, track & field,

football, tennis, etc. – Income does not matter.
