We show addition by using a plus sign

This is a plus sign:

When we show the answer in math, we use an equal sign

This is an equal sign:

Equals means “what you get” after you add things

Using your fingers can make addition easy!

Hold up 2 fingers on your right hand.. Now

hold up 2 fingers on your left hand

How many fingers are you holding up?

You are holding up 4 fingers. So, we just

learned that 2 + 2 = 4
