Hailey Hermosa has gone fromintern to executive director of theWindward Unit for the AmericanCancer Society in Hawaii.

While completing the last stageof her master’s degree in com-munity health from Old DominionUniversity in Virginia, Hermosaworked for six weeks last summeras an intern with the ACS HonoluluUnit. When Lani Almanza movedto the Honolulu office to becomethe Community Liaison, theWindward executive director posi-tion opened up.

“I applied, and they knew my

work, so they hired me,” saidHermosa, who also became a res-ident of Enchanted Lake lastweek.

Hermosa plans to raise fundswith corporate sponsors and com-munity outreach, as well as man-age the four signature ACS eventsfor the Windward office — theRelays For Life in Waimanalo,Kailua, Kaneohe and Koolauloa.

“It’s going to be great becausewe have a good team here,”Hermosa declared.

Hermosa’s husband, Paul, willresume performing as a rockmusician once they get settled herefrom Virginia.
