Module Summaries

This course covers the basics of the Consumer Protection Act (CPA) and how it affects those involved in the Sales and Retail industries. It covers the aims and benefits of the act, explains its basic components and guidelines, and provides some examples and best practices that suppliers of goods and services can apply in order to comply with the act and treat consumers appropriately at all times.

MODULE 1:

What is the Consumer Protection Act?

Module 1 covers the basics of the Consumer Protection Act, how and why the Act was developed, the requirements and intentions of the Act, and the consequences of failing to follow the Act.

MODULE 2: The Aim of the Act

Module 2 explains the three main aims of the CPA – to promote, provide, and prohibit, and additionally covers what the act does and does not apply to.

MODULE 3: Scope of the Act

Module 3 describes what the CPA covers, provides some important definitions that are important to the CPA, and outlines the scope of the Act.

MODULE 4: Consumer Rights in the Act

Module 4 introduces the rights that are included in the CPA and the elements that the CPA tries to regulate.

MODULE 5: General Marketing and Advertising Standards Part 1

Module 5 explains the standards that the CPA defines for marketing and advertising, how honesty applies to marketing and advertising, and touches on some behaviours that should be avoided in order to uphold these standards.

MODULE 6: General Marketing and Advertising Standards Part 2

Module 6 expands on how the CPA relates to marketing by explaining the concepts of Direct Marketing and Bait Marketing.

MODULE 7: General Marketing and Advertising Standards Part 3

Module 7 covers some important sales strategies that the CPA relates to by explaining competition and bundled goods.

MODULE 8: The Right to Fair and Honest Dealings Part 1

Module 8 introduces the right to fair and honest dealings, covers the importance of disclosing material information, and suggests various behaviours that need to be upheld or avoided in order to comply with the CPA.

Module 13 covers various aspects of sales that the CPA is concerned with, including sales records, the provision of information, order cancellations, and risk warnings.

MODULE 14: Sales Records Part 2

Module 14 defines and describes important aspects relating to fixed term contracts and deliveries.
