This is France. The Frenchmen were one of our former enemies, but they also influenced us in a positive way.

In 1789 the French wrote the Universal Rights Declaration that all men and women have. They are the same rights that the UN says nowadays.

Article 1. MEN AND WOMEN ARE BORN FREE AND EQUAL IN RIGHTS.

This means that all men and women are equal. Economics or social class are no longer important.

The declaration says:

Article 2: WOMEN AND MEN HAVE THE FOLLOWING RIGTHS:

FREEDOM SECURITY RESISTANCE TO OPPRESSION

 Article 7: ALL HUMAN BEINGS HAVE THE RIGHT TO A FAIR TRIAL WITHOUT TAKING INTO ACCOUNT WHETHER THEY ARE RICH OR POOR.

Article 11: EVERYONE CAN THINK AND EXPLAIN WHATEVER THEY WANT WITHOUT FEAR OF BEING ARRESTED.
