Free Resources for Your Classroom Come join us to learn about some great sites where your students can find free music, clipart, sounds, and more! Attendees should be able to answer these questions after attending this session: 1. Where can I find free and appropriate music, clipart, and sounds? 2. How can I search to find additional resources that my kids can use in the classroom? 3. What are the copyright and creative commons restrictions and how does that impact my use of these resources?

What is Creative Commons?

• Creative Commons is a nonprofit organization that enables the sharing and use of creativity and knowledge through free legal tools.

• There are various types of Creative Commons licenses that range from allowing any type of use with no attribution to allowing only certain uses and no changes.

What is Public Domain?

• Works in the public domain are those whose copyrights have expired, have been forfeited, or are inapplicable.

• Finding something on the internet does not mean it is in the public domain.

How do you know if an image is copyright or not?• Check the page you are on and see

if there is a copyright or “terms of use” notice

• If the image is copyrighted, you shouldrequest permission from the publisher to use it

These terms will come up often as we discuss free photo sources. Read over the terms and conditions of each site

you try so you know exactly when and what type of attribution is required.

Google Advanced Search

• Google Advanced Image Search is a method of finding free-to-use images through Google’s own search tools.

• Here’s a quick guide.

Wylio• An image search engine• Results only return images that are

listed with a Creative Commons licensed images

• You can sign in with your Google account and will need to give Wylio access to a web album like Picasa

• Once you select an image, Wylio makes it easy to give proper attribution to the creator of the image by providing you with html code that includes attribution
