Beautiful SoulsSchöne Seelen
“Philipp Tingler’s quick and witty dialogs would have made Billy Wilder jealous.” WDR
„I am born in a house, where one does not talk about feelings even if the house is on fire“, explains the protagonist’s wife when her husband, the writer Oskar Canow, tells her that he will be taking the seat of a friend in therapy.
Philipp Tingler’s depiction of the high society is piercing, a sarcastic view of a society where appearance and conceit is as real as botox injections and dietpills. Funny and full of esprit Tingler is trying to come closer to the question whether two human beings can be happy together.

MARIO GMÜR
MARIO GMÜR, born 1945, is a well-known and acclaimed psychiatrist, psychotherapist and psychoanalyst. He wrote and published many scholarly texts, a book with short stories and several non fiction titles. With Bending Paperclips he publishes the worldwide first analyses of the human paperclip-bending-behavior. Mario Gmür lives and works in Zurich.
Bending PaperclipsBüroklammern verbiegen
Bending paperclips is a basic human instinct, something we do almost unconsciously. And therefore the psychoanalyst Mario Gmür started to collect the bent paperclips from his clients and linked them to certain character types. He also developed a test for anyone who wants to know what type of paperclip bender they are. Not an entirely serious test, but often astonishingly accurate.

The go-getter
You are ambitious and driven. You believe in human progress and innovation but are neither fanatical nor narrow-minded. You always have the common good in mind, without being competitive, but you like to be part of the vanguard. You are open to ideas and suggestions and extremely curious.
Is this your type?
The charmer
You are a golden boy, everybody’s darling, and bask in your good reputation. People do not resent you for your vanity and pride. At first glance you are the debonair boy from next door. Even if some people criticize you for being vain and smug, you are always able to win over the majority.
Or more likely this one?

Healthy and unhealthy snoring
When it comes to snoring – with or without an underlying respiratory disorder – it makes no difference
whether you’re rich or poor, white or black, big or small, fat or thin, male or female. The opera singer,
the actress, the politician, the policeman, the teacher, the nun, the model, the judge, the ambassador,
the head of state, the athlete, the astronaut: they all snore. Only monkeys don’t snore because their
lower jaw juts out so prominently. This means there is plenty of room in the upper airway to breathe and
it doesn’t tighten, even if the upper airway muscles relax during sleep. In humans, the upper airway is
narrower, which is perhaps one of the reasons we can speak, but also why we snore.
Can snoring or respiratory disorders be healed? Healed, no; prevented, yes. Which is why respiratory therapy can be helpful, but will not cure the underlying problem. When it comes to alternative treatment options, I always like to point out that humanity is still lacking two pills: one for losing weight and the other against snoring.

Our Place in Time and SpaceElefanten im All
“Exciting and unbelievable, just the way our world is. And above all full of comprehensible answers.” KulturSPIEGEL
In this easily accessible and gripping book, the renowned astrophysicist Ben Moore tells the story of our universe from the Big Bang to the far distant future. Not only does he take the reader on a revealing journey into the mysterious world of astrophysics, he also explores many of the enigmas surrounding biology, neuroscience and the history of geology. How did atoms originate? How do stars form and die? Do aliens exist? For how much longer can life on Earth be sustained? Ben Moore provides surprising, frightening, fascinating and poetic answers to the big questions of physics and manages to draw the reader in on every page.

Out ThereDa draußen
“Moore is well on the way to become a popstar of science. He has a story to tell.” Die Weltwoche
Out there, amongst the stars, are numerous worlds similar to our own. According to Ben Moore the question to ask is not: “Does life exist out there?”, but rather: “What could extraterrestrial life be like?”
In the past years astronomers have discovered that our Earth may be quite common, one of countless other rocky planets in our Galaxy. Many of these worlds are similar to our own, others are very different. Some worlds have a single encompassing ocean – could creatures like dolphins pass beyond a stone age to achieve an industrial revolution and space age? Other worlds may have permanent daylight – would creatures on those worlds never sleep or dream?
Ben Moore will take you on a journey to the forefront of astrobiology – the interdisciplinary study of life on Earth and life out there in our universe. In an entertaining way and at a level that anyone who is interested can understand, he tells about the latest scientific findings and ideas. And he goes one step further: what would aliens look like and what capabilities might they have? How advanced might their civilisations be? Would we share the same emotions and ethical principles? Would we enjoy each other’s art and music? Would alien civilisations have achieved a peaceful utopia?

My name is Oscar and I am a mouse;
The sun is shining outside of my house.
But I live in a hole that is grubby and gritty
And I can’t go out and that’s such a pity.
“A mouse,” Mother said, “is much too small,
And venturing out is as good as a call,
For others will come to gobble you up.”
A cry and a howl; life ends abrupt!
But I’m so hungry my tummy is grumbling.
There are carrots out there and I feel my fear crumbling…
I can’t be timid, and it’s not too far,
And, oh those carrots, how tasty they are!
I’m ready to go; I’m ready to run -
A hero’s welcome, carrots and sun!
The coast is clear, there’s no more fear -
I am up and out of here!
