“Glory to God in heaven and on earth peace ..." By Fr Gabriel
My dear family of San Felipe de Neri, with the joy that God grants us for the birth of his Sacred Son in favor and benefit of our salvation, I want to wish you a holy, happy and prosperous Christmas, that the Peace that the angels have announced by the birth of our savior descend on each of you. Today, our hearts, our families, our parish and our entire world celebrate with joy the birth of our Savior. Jesus has come down from heaven and has assumed our human condition, our fragility and poverty. He has become one with us, he has come to teach us the path that leads to God, his Father, through the fulfillment of His holy will. God's love for us, his children, is so great that he sent his Son Jesus so that through words and works we could understand and accept the message of salvation, so that all together, like the great family of God that we are, we could return to our only true origin, eternal life. Today our environment, hit by the Covid-19 virus pandemic, recognizes the vulnerability and fragility to which we are exposed, our human condition has recognized the limits of our nature. But in Jesus, God and true man we find the sincere and real hope to continue our spiritual and human progress. In God, who was made man for our salvation, any inconvenience, any problem, any negative circumstance, is an opportunity for purification and change, as He taught us. He assumed our fragility to show us the path that leads to perfection, to glory, to rediscover our true dignity in heaven. Only with Jesus do we find the hope and faith necessary to overcome the obstacles that are presented to us. My dear spiritual family, I want to share with you a beautiful text, written by Pope Saint Leo, the Great, which we read in the Office of Reading on December 25th. “Dearly beloved, today our Saviour is born; let us rejoice. Sadness should have no place on the birthday of life. The fear of death has been swallowed up; life brings us joy with the promise of eternal happiness. No one is shut out from this joy; all share the same reason for rejoicing. Our Lord, victor over sin and death, finding no man free from sin, came to free us all. Let the saint rejoice as he sees the palm of victory at hand. Let the sinner be glad as he receives the offer of forgiveness. Let the pagan take courage as he is summoned to life. In the fullness of time, chosen in the unfathomable depths of God’s wisdom, the Son of God took for himself our common humanity in order to reconcile it with its creator. He came to overthrow the devil, the origin of death, in that very nature by which he had overthrown mankind.”
