When  Magic  Meets  Quantum  Physics

Thierry Giamarchi •  One of the experts on the fascinating world of

low dimensional quantum physics. •  Professor of Physics at the University of Geneva, Switzerland. Permanent member of French National Center for Scientific Research.

•  Author of more than 200 articles in refereed journals and one fundamental book on low dimensional physics.

Free  Public  Lecture  Tuesday  July  9th  ,  7pm  Room  G1B30,  Duane  Physics  Building  University  of  Colorado,  Boulder

Nothing seems further remote than a physicist and a magician. Nevertheless these two communities have a lot in common, both in their methodology and goals. The physical world seems to set the stage for magic tricks that are often even more spectacular than the ones a sleight of hand artist is able to present. By showing both magic tricks and physics experiments I will discuss the connections between magic and science, especially in relation to the breath-taking, bemusing and bizarre world of quantum mechanics, which has taken -- often without our realizing it -- so much importance in our everyday lives.
