FLORIDA POLLUTION PREVENTION ROUNDTABLE

Purpose• P2 Pollution Prevention Roundtable established to

provide a forum for promoting the development, implementation, and evaluation of efforts to avoid, eliminate, or reduce pollution at the source.

• To encourage and mentor the creation of P2 Programs, sustainability Programs, Green Teams, and Environmental management Systems within institutions such as government, businesses and organizations.

History• After recognizing how many here in Florida

were interested in becoming involved with the National Pollution Prevention Roundtable conferences, the Florida Pollution Prevention Roundtable (FLPPR) was started by a core of P2 professionals in 1998. Operating as a grass roots organization sponsored by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection for four years.

Mission

• Our organization the Florida Pollution Prevention Roundtable (FLPPR) incorporated as a Florida non-profit corporation in April 2002, whose mission is to establish a forum for identifying, coordinating, and promoting voluntary pollution prevention activities and resources throughout the state of Florida.

• P2 encompasses more than just toxic or hazardous contributors. Now included in the P2 approach are non toxic materials, recycled and reuse materials, energy, water and many other contributors. This broadened approach ensures that almost any process can be made more efficient through pollution prevention, which can also reduce the cost of operating a business or organization.

Vision

• Priorities have changed at the State and local level for many organizations, but we are still committed to promoting P2. In 2009 we launched a statewide award program to recognize businesses for achievements in P2.

• The Orange County Convention Center was the recipient of that award.

Goals

• As mentioned the Orange County Convention Center was the recipient of the 2009 FLPPR P2 Award, which gives recognition to companies in the community that are doing things to prevent pollution. This is what P2 is all about and we are about helping our community succeed in effecting pollution prevention.
