DESCRIPTION

Presentation at the 2014 High Tech Corridor Regional Leadership Conference How can a region like the High Tech Corridor and the diverse communities that are a part of it keep up with rapid technological, economic and social change and still maintain its equilibrium? How can business leaders effectively collaborate with educational institutions, workforce boards, and nonprofits to better utilize the talents of our diverse workforce – one that includes everyone from millennials to seniors? What does Tampa Bay need to do – at the regional and local level – to ensure its future economic competitiveness? Spark Growth, Florida's High Tech Corridor, and the Tampa Bay Partnership explored these and other related issues in depth at The 2nd Annual Regional Leadership Conference April 10 and 11, 2014.

Why are people getting interested in Strategic Doing? Why are people calling Purdue?

Time-out for an economics lesson…

Our  Market Economy  is…  Publicly  valuable    and    Privately  profitable

Our  Civic Economy  is…  Publicly  valuable    but  not    Privately  profitable

In a democracy, these two things are supposed to work together

It’s about 3 flows of money

7

We’re moving from our Grandparents’ economy to our Grandchildren’s economy…

7

We’ll need to move from hierarchical thinking to network mindsets…

From this…. …to this

7

Our challenge: “Link and leverage” assets to create new opportunities

Step 1: Stop thinking like our pets….

Thinking Differently Behaving Differently Doing Differently

7

Had enough?

A key lesson from our Founders: Civility powers innovation

7

We build trust by doing, not just talking…

7

What happens when this goes away?

And this stuff doesn’t cut it..

7

What happens when this goes away?

Start new conversations….

Our future is not linear

It all seems so complex, so ambiguous…

And we struggle with old systems…

How can we make our way?

The answer: Follow simple rules

Strategy answers 2 questions

31

Strategic Doing: Simple, but not easy…

Strategic Planning Strategic Doing

From slow, linear…

…to fast, agile

Alignments emerge…
