What is flickr

Creating an account

Since Flickr is owned by Yahoo! you’ll need a

Yahoo! account to use it. You can create one here if

you don’t already have one.

User profileYou can

include as little or as much

information as you’d like.

Other options include: Web

site URL, home town,

interests, favorite

movies/books, and more.

Uploading

• Methods– Web interface– Flickr Uploadr (Yes, that’s how they spell it.)

– Upload to Flickr via Windows XP Explorer– E-mail– 1001 for Mac OS X– iPhoto plugin for Mac OS X

Web interfaceTells you how much of your upload you’ve used so far this

month.

Click this link for the uplodaing

Browse for the image you

wish to upload. The

Web interface limits you to six uploads at

a time.

Tags added here will be attached to all photos

uploaded in this batch.

Privacy options

Upload to Flickr viaWindows XP Explorer

Adds Flickr as an option for Web publishing via XP’s

“Publish this file to the Web”

E-mail

Clicking on this link will present you with a custom e-mail address

attached to your account. E-mailing a photo to that address will post it to your

flickr account.

Click this link again whenever you want a new e-mail address.

Editing

Clicking on the “Edit” link

allows you to change a

photo’s title, description,

and tags.

Organizing

Search photos by tag, keyword and date. Select

& drag them into the organizer.

The organize screen allows

you to manipulate your photos in batches including tagging,

sending to groups and sorting sets.

Creating a setClick on “add to set” then select “create a

new set”.

You’ll then need to give the set a title and a description

(optional).

When you create the set this photo will automatically be added to the set.

Adding to a set

Click on “add to set” then select the name

of the group you wish to add the

photo to.

Removing from a set

Click on “add to set” then click on the [X] next to the name of

the group.

Deleting all photos from a set will delete the set.

All SizesAvailable sizes will

depend on the size of the original photo.

Slideshows

Moving your mouse over the picture allows you to select a

particular picture.

Blogging via Flickr

To send flickr photos to your blog you must

first set up your blog info in

your account.

You can also control who is

allowed to blog your flickr

photos.

Blog ThisClick “blog this” to send the photo to your blog.

Then compose your blog post. The photo will automatically

be cited.

Tags

The larger the word, the more

popular it is.

FavoritesTo make a photo a

favorite, click on “add to favorites”.

To view your favorites click on the “your

favorites” link on your photos page.

Adding/editing contacts

To add someone as a contact, find the link on their stream page. You’ll be given the option to mark them

as a friend and/or family.

Once you’ve added a contact they’ll be marked as such on their stream page along with a link for you to change their status or remove them from

your contact list.

Contacts

You have a page listing your contacts

linked to on your homepage.

Contacts @ home

The four most recent photos from your contacts will

appear on your homepage.

Groups

Try a search on topic of interest and to see what groups already exist before creating your own.

Creating a groupChoose your group

type carefully.

Joining a group

Joining a group will add the group pool to your groups list and will allow you

to submit your photos to the group.

Adding to a group

Click on “send to group” to post your photo to a group.

You must be a member of a group before it will show

up in this list.

Removing from a group

Click on “send to group” then click on the [X] next to the name of the group.

RSS Feeds

Look for links to RSS feeds at the

bottom of any group, tag, or user stream.

Leaving your mark

• Comments

• Notes

CommentsComments will be shown beneath the

photo.

You can also add your own comments to any photo. Be

sure to preview before posting.

Recent comments

You can link to recent

comments off your home

page.

Use the dropdown box to change the timeframe for

displayed comments.

Viewing NotesIf there’s a

note on a photo a box will

appear. Hover your mouse

over the box to see the content

of the note.

Adding notesClick “add

note” to do just that.

You can drag and resize the

note box.

The content of the note goes

here.

Your Account

There are options you can change

here. Be sure to look at all of them before

you get to far along.
