Regulatory Fitness and Performance Programme (REFIT)

•Launched in December 2012 in the context of smart regulation

•Goal: simplifying EU law, reducing unnecessary regulatory burden and contributing to a clear, stable & predictable regulatory framework

•Different measures:

• Legislative actions: amendments and consolidations

• Repeals and withdrawals

• Evaluations and fitness checks

•Scoreboard (latest: 18 June 2014)

REFIT programme

• Comprehensive policy evaluations, assessing whether the regulatory framework for a policy sector is fit for purpose

• Identifying excessive regulatory burden, overlaps, gaps, inconsistencies, obsolete measures, etc.

• Assessing effectiveness, efficiency, coherence, relevance and EU added value of the legislative framework
