“All In Ministry” is not just the name of our leadership booklet for 2011. The expression captures our focus as a church this year. It is a call to action that represents what you have been hearing about for the last few weeks and months – that we must be a church where ALL are deeply committed to serving Christ together.
You might be familiar with the phrase “the priesthood of all believers.” It expresses the belief that every baptized Christian is indeed a priest in the sense that one’s first loyalty and calling is to follow Christ with one’s life and share Christ’s love with others. All who are baptized are called into ministry – the only question is: “How will you respond to Christ’s call to ministry?”
This year at FUMC, we are praying for God’s guidance regarding our focus or aim on ministry. You’ll note that the first letters of “All In Ministry” spell AIM. So, we are asking everyone to commit to specific areas of service. If you are already a leader of a group or committee or serve in a particular area, then you have found your AIM. If you are in discernment, speak to other leaders in the church about getting involved in an area.
Once you have found your AIM – go “All In.” Give as much as you can to this area as well as to the overall work of the church in Jesus’ name. When Jesus called the disciples, he was clear that they were leaving everything behind to follow him. This is likely a reason so few followed initially. In the language of our time, he would say to them, “Are you prepared to go ‘all in’?”
Let us all, regardless of our condition or position, commit or recommit to this goal in 2011: “All In Ministry.”
