• "conceal from unauthorized view; censor but do not destroy”

Experimental Artists

Have been creating blackout art long before Mr. Kleon, but it’s a fun way to “speak out” about an event in the world, controversy, issue or make a statement.

Your Task

Instead of starting with a blank page and worrying about what in the world you should write, you are simply going to eliminate words you don’t need!Only rule: May not use an already completed sentence in the document.

Jobs1. Give each person in the group a # (1,2,3 or 4)

2. #4 – Pick up the table number bag of markers for your group and give one marker to each person

3. #2 – Pick up a stack of articles for your group

4. #1 – Pass out the articles

5. #3 – Set timer to 18 minutes. (Hyperlink on Desktop)

To Complete1. Create a sentence about yourself from the words in

the newspaper article

2. With your marker, “blackout” all the words you don’t need to write that sentence.

3. On a 3x5 card:

1. Creatively write your first name and last initial

2. Write your sentence using the unmarked words from your article

4. You will be sharing your sentence with the class tomorrow.

5. The article and 3x5 card are due tomorrow

You will be tested on concepts in Chemistry, Physics and Astronomy
