ZAKAT UL FITR

Zakat is a portion of our wealth, it is the right of Allaah, and is given to the poor people.

Zakat means: purification, blessing, growth

ALSO TO BE PAID FOR THOSE HE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR

Two types of Zakat:

1- Zakatul Fitr 2- Zakat on an annual basis

1-Zakatul Fitr is to be paid by:

Every Muslim who is free, and posseses..

It is due by the last sunset of Ramadan

One cannot pay on behalf of his independent family members

Starts with himself, then his wife, young children, father, and mother, and then one’s adult son (dependent)

Zakat is paid in the form of local staple, food, not money

Makruh to delay it

Zakat is still to be paid and is separate from Zakatul Fitr

Zakatul Fitr should be in the hands of the poor BEFORE the eid Prayer, as it won’t reach them on time!

Sending money overseas is allowed as long as it is done BEFORE and is guaranteed that it will reach ON TIME

HARAM to skip this Zakat Allowed to give money, but the spirit of Zakatul Fitr is to give FOOD

Zakatul Fitr is exclusively for the Muslim poor and

needy

Give it to someone you KNOW will deliver it on time, or give it yourself

UDHIHYA

Animal ( camel, cow, sheep, goat) slaughtered for the sake of Allah

Greatest deeds in Islam, the opposite is the greatest shirk!

History behind the slaughtering of an animal on this day

It is a confirmed Sunnah If you take an oath to slaughter one of your animals, then it becomes wajib

If you promise to sacrifice one for Allah then that becomes wajib

Conditions of the one sacrificing are that he be a Muslim, sane, adult, and has enough wealth

It is permissible for 7 people to partake in the slaughtering of one animal

ANIMALS SHOULD BE FREE OF CUTS AND FAULTS

Conditions:

1.The animal should have reached the required age – 6 yrs for a camel, 3 for a cow

and a goat, 2 for a sheep < If less than a yr then…

TIME FOR SACRIFICE

At a specified time, from after the prayer of Eid till the 3rd day of tashreeq, 13th dhul Hijjah

1/3 for the family, 1/3 for the poor, and 1/3 for friends and neighbors

WHOEVER SELLS THE SKIN OF HIS UDHIHYA, THERE’S NO UDHIHYA FOR HIM

The skin can be given as a charity or used

Cannot give the skin to the butcher or for sale

SUNNAN OF UDHIHYA

The one who wants to offer must not cut his hair, nails or any part of the skin from 1st Dhul Hijjah till he offers sacrifice

Better to slaughter by himself, or if not, then should be present
