Financial Aid and Scholarships
The value of a Penn State education is considerable —as a graduate you’ll gain a nationally recognized degree and become part of the largest alumni association in the world—and the years you spend at Penn State are an excellent investment in your future. To help you finance that investment, the Office of Student Aid offers numerous scholarships and financial aid packages that make paying for college easier.
Scholarships
Through the generosity of alumni, corporate partners, and friends, the College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST) offers a number of scholarships to our students. Full-time students, including incoming freshmen, are automatically considered for many of IST’s scholarships upon completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Additionally, IST provides several scholarship opportunities that require an application.

First-year students are also automatically considered for Penn State scholarships. Approximately 4,100 fi rst-year students receive a University scholarship. Both Pennsylvania and non-Pennsylvania residents receive this consideration once they are accepted into Penn State. Typical scholarship awards range from $1,500 to $3,000 per academic year.

Financial Aid
Approximately 75 percent of undergraduate stu-dents receive some form of fi nancial aid at Penn State. In order to be considered for fi nancial aid, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which is available starting January 1 at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

Scholarships At-a-Glance
• IST requires an application for certain scholarships, including the David Rusenko Entrepreneur-in-Residence Scholarship, David Rusenko Emerging Entrepreneur Scholarship, and the Nick and Melinda Berardi Open-Source Scholarship.
• In addition, all full-time undergraduate students (including incoming freshmen) enrolled in IST are considered for scholarships for which they are eligible upon completion of the FAFSA.
• Students attending a non-UP Penn State campus are eligible for scholarships.
• Most scholarships are awarded by mid-summer. Occasionally, new scholarships may become available during the semester and awards are made when the funds are available. When an award is made, the funds are visible on your e-Lion account.
• Only students who have been selected for an award will receive direct notifi cation via e-mail and a letter sent to the home address of the recipient.
• While you do not need to submit a copy of your FAFSA to IST, it is highly recommended that you fi le a FAFSA no later than March 1. Your FAFSA is used to determine your eligibility for awards that are based on fi nancial need.
