First and foremost, I want to thank the photographers who put their trust in me and submitted to this very first issue. Without them, I would have nothing but blank pages. Thank you for sharing the same vision as me. ------------I’ve been going to concerts since I was a newborn. My parents would take me to music festivals featuring blue grass artists. Of course I don’t remem-ber any of this, but I grew up with live music pumping through my veins. I used to jam to the Oldies radio stations in the car with my mom. Growing up my favorite song was Sugar Sugar by The Archies. No one my age knew what that was let alone that it was a song. I remember whenever I would hear it on the radio I would crank up the volume and sing at the top of my lungs. I still do that today. Music has always been a huge part of my life. I was in choir most of my life and was always a dancer - I was surrounded by music. I had always gone to concerts, but in high school is when it really started to kick in for me. I fell in love with a boy band, *ahem* the Jonas Broth-ers, and saw them eight times within a 2-year time span. I was obsessed with finding photos online and sharing them on MySpace or hanging them in my locker. I knew then that I wanted to shoot music. You get to be so close to the artist and really get to feel the music blasting out of the amps. Shooting live music really has no comparison.

I came up with the idea of a 50 state magazine back in 2012, but never ex-ecuted it until October 2014. Originally, I wanted to showcase bands from all 50 states, but as I thought more about it and let time pass I realized I wanted to showcase photographers shooting those bands. In the world of live music photography it can be a difficult to shoot shows. You always need to be shooting for something or someone. As a beginner, I never thought I was good enough to shoot for someone else because I didn’t have a portfolio to show. I created this magazine for others to have that opportunity. To be able to shoot without a portfolio.

FIFTY Mag is a online digital magazine showcasing up and coming photogra-phers from all fifty states of the US and this is our very first issue.
