SPEAKING-Role Play: A Visit to the Doctor’s. -Pair work: How adaptable are you?-Role play about “Culture Shock”.-Two students will be a professional couple or friends (they can decide on theiroccupations) who wish to emigrate to the UK. They haven’t yet decided where in the UK they want to live. In groups, you will have to persuade a professional couple to move to one of the UK countries that you

represent. You will have toconsider; Job opportunities, climate, location, culture, sports, people, and many other things that you may

COCKNEY RHYMING SLANG

Cockney rhyming slang originated in the East end of London.

Sort of secret code ,two theories:1-invented by prisoners who wanted to communicate with one another without the guards understanding 2-that market vendors invented it to be able to speak without the customers understanding them.

It works by taking a pair of connected words (e.g. Boat race) and the second word rhymes with the word you want to hide. (e.g. She’s got a beautiful boat– meaning she’s got a beautiful face!) (Sometimes it can be one word that just rhymes with the word you want to hide).

You have decided to spend your holidays somewhere in England, (dates from the 12th of August until the 28th of August), so you will have to plan many things.

After having planned all these, prepare a short presentation to explain your classmates, giving details on expenses and why you chose that options among many others.

feel about this change? _ Have you had to change jobs or schools several times? Do

you find it difficult to adapt to a new job or school? _ Have you travelled to different countries? Which ones? Did

you enjoy the experience? _ What is the longest time you have lived outside of your

country? _ Do you think you are open to different ideas and different

cultures? _ Would you go and live in a different country if you spoke the

ROLE PLAY: A Doctor’s Visit

A = Doctor B= Patient A: Hi. Come on in and have a seat. Now what seems to be the problem? B: I have a rash on my arm. A: How long have you had the rash? B: It’s been about a week. A: Are you taking anything for it? B: I put some cream on it but it doesn’t seem to be helping. A: I see. Are you allergic to any medications? B: Not that I know of. A: I’m going to give you a prescription for some ointment. I want you

to apply it three times a day. You should also avoid scratching your skin. And it’s important to use

as little soap as possible. Make an appointment to see me next week if it doesn’t get better over the next few days.
