OFFSHC will continue to hold meetings during 2014 on the second Thursday of each month. During the odd months, we will discuss a technical topic and on the even months, we will meet for lunch. Lunch locations are to be determined. Suggestions are welcome!

OFFSHC March Technical Meeting:The United States Postal Service will be hosting the March meeting. We will be touring the Processing and Distribution Plant to learn about the Biohazard Detection System (BDS) utilized to detect possible threats in the mail. Details are to follow.

CSHO courses available locally (By Scott English, USPS) University of Texas Arlington offers many courses locally to allow personnel to pursue a Certified Safety and Health Official (CSHO) designation. The USPS is encouraging their employees to become CSHO and the designation is recognized in the EOSH field. A few classes are offered at no charge. OK District Safety Specialist, Scott English provided the membership with an informative presentation on Slips, Trips, and Falls (STF) and how they affect industry.A few facts from OSHA:
17% of all disabling occupational injuries result from falls 25% of all reported claims are from falls 15% of industrial accident deaths resulted from a fall Falls are the 2nd leading cause of deaths behind MVA in industry
Mark Calvert, OK District Safety Manager, demonstrated the Postal Service’s Fall Prevention Program for employees that must work in icy conditions. Mr. Calvert gaveeach member a pair of the ice cleats utilized by the OK District.

The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education operates a list server that routinely sends emails on current EOSH articles and info about local training resources. Pipeline Safety Training at Your Location (By Mike Baldwin, TSI)
The DOT TSI has a newly revised Pipeline Safety Compliance course specially designed for the energy industry. The course familiarizes students with the DOT regulatory compliance for liquid and gas pipeline safety. Training can be held at your location.
